I spotted these 2 kittens sleeping atop a small wooden stool. They appear to be siblings. Abandoned as well as there wasn't a sign of a mother cat around.
They look very scruffy and grimy as only months of living in a busy street downtown can do to them. Underfed too. This is the life of street cats. With no humans to call their own, they fend for themselves. These two are even luckier than some because they have each other. Some street cats and kittens I see go through it all by themselves.
As I went closer to get a better picture kitten 1 suddenly awoke. She must have sensed me and was alerted to danger as only street-wise critters are used to.
And so did kitten 2, stretching and yawning, trying to determine if he should get up or go back to sleep. The noise of vehicular traffic must be so familiar to them that they fall asleep to its noise and even smell. I stepped back so as not to alert further the awakening kittens.
Just in time Kitten 2 decides to go back to sleep while Kitten 1 is still trying to make up her mind if it is better to go back to dreamland or start looking for food.
This was taken just outside a small shop repairing motorcycles along a busy street here in our city. I really hope the mechanic cares for them. At least he was good enough to lend them his small stool for their bed.
