Finally, yesterday morning we ran into a super friendly cat on the street. It's been a while since I've had an encounter like this where a cat would come so close to me and let me cuddle it with complete confidence. In fact, she followed us and asked for those cuddles, and I guess she wouldn't mind some food either, even though I had nothing to offer her. She was happy with the attention too and later I had to tell her not to follow us anymore. Maybe she would get lost if followed us for a long time.
But if I think better, the chances a stray cat gets lost are small. They are ingenious; living on the street taught them to be careful. She also looked healthy and happy - a kitty who knows how to find her place in the world.
Mica, as I called her at the moment, conquered my husband's heart too. I let them have their moment.
That name I gave her, Mica (should be pronounced something like Mitza) was the name of my favourite childhood cat. She was of a similar colour (a combination of black, grey, ginger and white colours), with a slightly different pattern but similar enough to make me think about my childhood furry friend. My old Mica... she lived for nine years and was my best-ever cat. Nobody liked her when she was a small, skinny kitten, who just appeared out of nowhere; they said she was ugly but how could they say such a thing? No cat is ugly!
Later, when my Mica grew up and became the best cat and most protective mom in the entire street, even the neighbours admitted her excellence and courage. She showed her fearlessness on one occasion when she protected her kittens from a fighting dog! That dog escaped from the yard of one neighbour and the encounter with my cat didn't finish well for him. He ran away, scared of a cat! 😁
I don't know what is the life story of this "Mica" and what is her real name. What I do know is that she lives close to a little marina where we walked yesterday morning and that there are chances we meet again the next time when we go there. Also, seeing her ear-tip I knew she was taken care of and spayed. The civil organizations for the protection of stray cats use this technique to mark a cat that was already spayed or neutered, that way helping combat the overpopulation of these animals living on the streets.
Is it a method that is also used in your country? Are stray animals a problem where you live or do some organizations take care of these animals, providing them with food and medical care, and also controlling overpopulation?
