This classic style English Pale Ale was first brewed in 1979 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the MG car factory in Abingdon. Fortunately for beer drinkers it’s lasted longer than the MG brand that was bought out by the Chinese in 2005.
This tasty malty beverage has an ABV of 5% out of the bottle and 4.5% when you get it from the cask in the pub. Brewed by the Moreland Brewery of Abingdon in Oxfordshire using Pale, Crystal Malts and Challenger, First Gold, Golding Hops
Giving it a very traditional toffee/caramel flavour slightly sweet and malty taste but not to hoppy.
A great accompaniment to a roast dinner, pie and mash or even my favourite sticky toffee pudding with custard, it seems to go with anything. There is even a Gluten Free version but it’s a bit hard to get hold of.
So there you go Hivers tonight’s tipple Old Speckled Hen.
