Well Hive beer fans tonight’s tipple is Faversham Steam Brewery Whitstable Bay pale ale. It’s a light refreshing 4.0%ABV Pale ale from the guys at Shepherd Neame which you all know is one of my favourite brewers.
A change from most of the beers from Britains oldest brewery, it’s a very modern brew with Challenger and Syrian Goldings Hops. And unlike the more traditional ales they brew like Bishops Finger or their Strong Kentish Ale.
It pours very well and holds a head nicely and has a refreshing slightly fruity taste. A nice beer for sitting out in the garden on a warm spring day.
The Shepherd Neame website suggests it’s a good beer for seafood and it certainly made a nice accompaniment to the grilled salmon I had for my tea and didn’t overpower the flavour at all. It might be a bit light for full blown fish and chips though which would be better with an Amber ale or traditional bitter.
