Heading to the pub for a few beers is not something that can happen here in Melbourne Australia for a least the next few weeks, but thankfully our house contains beer and another human being who I like drinking with so we will carry on.
We even made a bit of a night of it, some cheese, crackers and two very good beers.
First up with Fixation Dreamseeker.
Fixation are a local Australian brewery who focus on IPAs this one, contained in a psychedelic can is one of there special releases. Fixation know what they are doing so this promises a bit.
It pours a light yellow colour with a soapy white head. The smell is gorgeous, tropical fruits dominate, the classic new skool fruit hops Amarillo and Citra the reason - I'm confident there has never been a bad beer made with Citra in it.
It has a smooth mouthfeel, a bigger body than the colour would suggest, its nicely balanced, the hops are there but it's not a blow you head off bitter.
All in all a great beer.
Later in the night things tend to turn to the dark side, and for this we have something quite special and colloboration brew between Epic brewery in New Zealand and Fierce, out of Scotland
The beer is an Imperial Stout and it's called, Epicly Fiercely Intolerant, which is a described I've been accussed of being in my time
This is also a great label, a figure part criminal part superhero, all pop art, very cool and a big bottle great for sharing, which we will need to as this thing weighs in at 12% ABV
It pours pitch black with a tan creamy head which disappears.
It smells of sweet roasted dark chocolate. With just a hint of alcohol burn.
The body is smooth with very little carbonation. the taste is not as roasted as most imperial stouts would be, it has a sweetness, but not enough to be a milk stout, its in between and quite enjoyable
Somehow holds its 12% ABV easily, in fact dangerously so.
In these times, physically isolate yourself, enjoy the little things in life like a good beer, be safe and Hive on.
Oh and join #Beersaturday, organised by - main post is here: @detlev/beersaturday-week-145 and if you like beer and like reading about beer check out the BEER community on Hive.
