I'm currently in Bangkok, Thailand, and I'm staying at the Prince Palace Hotel. Some of you may remember this hotel, especially those of you who had the opportunity to stay here during Steemfest (better known as Hivefest) in Bangkok in 2019. The choice of this hotel was not random; rather, I deliberately wanted to relive old memories of the wonderful people I met back then. But let's not talk about that past today, let's talk about a new discovery that makes my stay here special - the "Butter Beer".
You can buy this iconic drink from the Harry Potter saga for an affordable 120 baht (around €3.12) in the hotel's own bar. The thought of enjoying a drink that has such a deep connection to one of the most successful book and movie series of my life piqued my curiosity and made me want to take a little trip into the magical world of Harry Potter, even if it's just for a moment.
The "Butter Beer" itself does not disappoint at all. The sweet, buttery note is reminiscent of cozy evenings in the Three Broomsticks, while the frothy head exudes a hint of nostalgia. Here, in the distance from Hogwarts and Diagon Alley, I experience the magic of this drink and feel how the magic of J.K. Rowling's stories reaches across the globe.
It's amazing how a simple drink in a distant Bangkok bar can bring back so many memories while sparking anticipation for new adventures.
The "Butter Beer" develops a unique taste from the very first sip. Watching the barman behind the bar, I quickly realized that this was no ordinary beer. The preparation was unconventional: milk was frothed and then poured over the actual beer to form a foamy head. After a short time, however, this crown became hard and stiff, almost like a pudding on top of the beer.
The drinking process was unusual, but it held many surprises. The alcohol content of the beer was surprisingly low, and over time the color of the drink changed. It took on a consistency reminiscent of a café latte macchiato - truly unusual, but ultimately extremely intriguing.
In any case, it was a beer I had never tried before! Is it worth recommending? Yes, I think so. You should try it at least once, as it can obviously be prepared in different ways, which gives it an additional multi-faceted flavor.
On that note!
Myself a great vacation, Cheers and a great time to you readers!
Behind the Story - Whats a Butter Beer?
Butterbeer is a fictional drink from the "Harry Potter" series by J.K. Rowling. It is described as a low-alcoholic drink that tastes of a mixture of butter, sugar and spices. In the world of Harry Potter, it is a popular drink among witches and wizards and is often consumed in Diagon Alley or Hogsmeade.
In reality, many theme parks and events associated with 'Harry Potter' have created their own versions of Butterbeer. These drinks are usually non-alcoholic and taste sweet, often with flavors of caramel, vanilla and butter. Some versions are served warm, others cold, and some have a frothy crown, similar to a beer.
