Well, this is my first post, for normally is posting something. So I saw this beertopic when struuning around (strunen means searching).
I’ve found some really old beers and NO, I won’t tell you where for it must remain a mistery ;)
This one is a Doppio Malto from at least before November 1998. So it means this beer is more than 23 years old!!! I’ve got a few older but not as goodlooking as this one ;)
The beer has been brewed in the Huyghe Brewery in Melle since 1993 (Belgium).
These beers were originally brewed at Brewery Biertoren until they were taken over by the Huyghe brewery.
Campus in Latin means "open field", from which the place name Kampenhout is derived. Brewery Biertoren had its branches there.
About the beer itself: It’s not quite clear, a nice amber color, a little cloudy because of it’s age I guess and it smells and tastes like a Barley. The taste is surprisingly clear and good. However most of the carbondioxide has left the bottle, for it was not designed to keep it this long. So I really missed the fresh taste, but nonetheless, if held dark and beer on the cap, it should last for at least 10-15 years.
The Huyghe Brewery still exists and is now famous for their Delirium Tremens, but that’s a story for another day. ;)
Cheers!
