Daylight catches me mid-journey. I buy a beer and take a picture in the same spot where, a year ago, I took a picture drinking the same beer, but this time I was headed somewhere where I thought the light would embrace me.
For a moment, I considered my pride, setting it aside and moving on. But then I saw a message from someone who made it clear I shouldn't continue down that path, that I should let go of what was never light but empty promises from someone who, in retrospect, only hurt me with their siren songs.
So I return to my city, shave after a shower, sigh, and think about those who can truly enjoy Christmas and its real meaning...
I think of those who can have popcorn and smile at the beauty of kernels that open with no other mission than to surrender to delight...
Smile for those who can, amidst the crackling of others' company...
And I smile, just four days before Christmas, for those who have the chance to drink a beer, in this case Parranda, it doesn't matter if it's made in Cuba, with its fresh, light, citrusy and soft floral flavor, or made in another province, although many think it's made in the province where I live; a light beer with 4.9% alcohol, which isn't everyone's favorite, but is readily available to others...
I toast to the clarity of the foam and the transparency of the golden beer.
I raise a toast, then, to those who can smile with the gratitude of those who are having fun, to the guests who embrace them, to those who toast in harmony...
I raise a toast to all of you, to whom I offer a hug of light!
May genuine smiles embrace you!
Cheers!
