I was very happy to be taking part in #beersaturday this week. I had many things to do in the backyard before an upcoming rainstorm. I had to mow the grass pull some weeds as well as tend to our large garden. In our garden we grow tomatoes, squash, lettuce, tomatillos, melons, cucumbers, strawberries, blueberries, asparagus, onions, radish, carrots and of course HOPS. I have four different types of hops I grow to put into my homebrews. My last #beersatruday post I show my homebrewing setup, I love to brew beer. So the hops I grow to put into my beers are Magnum, Cascade, Columbus, and Northern hops. After a day of working in the yard I headed into my bar and picked out a beer to enjoy on the deck.
Behind the beer you can see our goats and sheep taking care of the weeds in the lower yard. I have two goats named Oliver and Dozer. I also have two painted desert sheep named Una and Guinness. Since a lot of people have never heard of a painted desert sheep I decided to throw a picture of Guinness on here.
The first beer of the day I picked is Drake's Brewing Denoginizer which is a double IPA coming in at 9.75%. Drake's Brewing company is from San Leandro, California. They have been around for many years now and this beer is definitely one of their beers that they are famous for. It is a double IPA and strong in alcohol but that taste is well balanced with Cascade, Chinook, and Centennial Hops. The taste is similar to most IPA's however after two of these you realize it is up there in alcohol. If you ever come across this beer, give it a try, it is a great example of Drake's Brewing.
After finishing my Denoginizer, I went for another IPA but this time it was a Lagunitas IPA. Lagunitas Brewing is located in Petaluma, California. Another great IPA, but this one is produced on a much larger scale then most craft beers. Many restaurants in the Bay Area of California sell Budwieser, Coors, Sierra Nevada, and Lagunitas IPA. I am not sure how widespread this beer goes but in my area it is very common. Lagunitas IPA is very easy drinking for an IPA and is good for a hot day. The IPA is also made with Cascade, Chinook, and Centennial hops much like the Denoginizer but this IPA also gets a shot of Simcoe Hops. It is an enjoyable beer as well.
The last beer I had to complete my day was a Homebrewed Black IPA. My Black IPA comes in at 6.7%. The hops I use are Magnum, Cascade, Centennial, and Simcoe. If you have never tried a Dark IPA give it a shot. The dark IPA that I make has a hints of Chocolate and coffee along with the strong hop flavor traditionally found in an IPA.
So my Saturday was a beautiful sunny day of working in the yard and then relaxing on the back deck admiring what I had done.
Hope everyone enjoyed their #beersaturday.
