I'm back again for the Beer Saturday Challenge and I'm back again in California, where there are more tasty beers than I could possibly sample. Most of them are made in microbreweries, or so they claim, and many of them just happen to be IPAs, which I don't mind, since I quite like the heavy hop taste. Since now I also have the time and the infrastructure to write leisurely posts, let me present a beer that I have enjoyed recently.
Hop Ottin' India Pale Ale
Oh California, the state with the bear flag, the place with endless forests and rushing rivers, where antlered bears take a refreshing drink under a purple sky... What? I mean, as strange as this may sound, for some weird reason the image does not feel out of place. I've been there, and though I never spotted any brown bears (which I'm perfectly fine with), there are plenty of deer and elk who also have antlers, and they also like to drink good water.
An Excellent Taste!
So how is the beer, you may be wondering. And I can only say: delicious. Though honestly, coming from Mexico, where you may have a handful of choices with essentially very little difference, this nice hoppy taste was highly appreciated. It also had a nice color. But don't expect any descriptive analogies here. It felt good on my taste buds, that's all.
Anderson Valley Brewing Company
Hailing from Boonville, California, this tasty drink was made by the Anderson Valley Brewing Company. I remember riding past the turnoff to Highway 128, when I was cycling along the California Coastal Highway (the One) in Mendecino County eight years ago. Now that I tried to look up their website, it's down. Instead, there are several news articles that it has been sold - and bought by a local wine entrepreneur. Okay then! But even that must have happened a year ago. Anyway, the beer was good enough to buy me another one, but interestingly, I don't find it at the stores any more. Did I happen to taste something antique that's not around any longer? We may never know for sure...
