It's the Third Quarter Portfolio Day here in the country. Portfolio day is a nationwide simultaneous event in the schools in the Philippines. It is held to give recognition to pupils and students' achievement at the end of each quarter of the school year and to meet and update the parents of their children's performance in school.
I attended to my kid's Portfolio activity in the morning and afterward, I rushed to our school to do my duty for our school's venue preparation since our group was assigned as sponsors of the said activity.
For the secondary schools, Portfolio day activities are held in the afternoon while for the elementary activities are held in the morning. So I was kinda running here and there. 😄 It's a little tough when you are a working mom.
Of course, I could ask someone to attend to my kid but I am a mom and being there with my kid on important or may it be just a trivial event for them in their childhood is something I don't want to miss. It's the little things that matter for me.
In the afternoon, our school held the activities for the Portfolio Day. Aside from the recognition program and meeting with parents, one important highlight of this event is the display of student's output/projects for everyone to see. It showcases students' creativity and ability through their artworks and projects.
When the recognition program ended, I had the chance to go around to see all the output of students displayed. Many of the output featured were paintings of Special Program of the Arts students, Math and Science projects, and other projects related to the subjects.
I love seeing these art works display. It's as if I am walking inside an art gallery.
Here some of my favorite artworks and output display...
These water or food containers is a project from the Science classes. We are advocating in school a plastic free environment and even implementing the No Plastic Policy.
We call this Project Bagol since the container is made of bagol or coconut shells which can be used as alternative to plastic containers.
Another way of integrating recycling with Science project is this plant cell model made from recycled materials.
Here's a bag made of coconut husk. Creativity of students comes out naturally when they are properly guided.
This colorful headress signifies the colorful culture of the country with its festivities. The month of April and May is jampacked with fiestas and all those culture related activities.
Paintings
These artworks are created by SPA visual artists students.
This painting is one of my favorite. As I look at this painting I can see female beauty and sophistication even when she's covered with cloth. But as I stare more closely at this painting, I think it suggests a deeper meaning. Or maybe it's just me trying to interpret something. Making my brains work. 😁
At first look, its just a landscape painting but then on the second look I realize it forms a guitar with the reflection.
I love these flower paintings. I would love one of these paintings hanging on my wall. It looks simple but there's calm and beauty in these art works.
Incorporating local materials, in this case the bilao as canvass, I find these paintings ingenious and unique.
Here are stones turned gems with these cute paintings on them. It must be tricky to look for a perfect stone or think of a painting on these stones depending on its size and shape. This makes collecting stones all worth it.
These are my favorites from the art work display. I was thinking where these will be going after and found out that these paintings are for sale when a parent bought one of the paintings. Knowing that, I was tempted to buy the flower paintings. I really love those. 😃
So this Portfolio Day activity is something I look forward to as a parent. It is one proud moment for us parents and students especially after all the hard work. It also makes parents get more involved with their kids. Making education work, is not just the sole responsibility of thebteachers but the parents need to work hand in hand to mould these country's youth especially this generation has become more challenging in many aspects.
