Layouting and designing has always been my interest and hobby. I do it most in preparing my lessons for my students. When I learned that is organizing a contest in making a Hive Business Card, I immediately told myself to give it a try.
After I read the instructions and guidelines of the contest carefully, I thought of making a minimalist business card. To be honest, I search for samples in Canva and Pinterest, but I did not base my design in a specific business card.
Making graphic designs now is made easy because of the many applications available. For my hive business card design, I used Canva. As a public teacher in the Philippines, we are given the privilege to use a pro account were we can access more elements, graphics, texts, and many more.
Front Side Design
I wanted my Hive business card to look elegant and sleek so I chose a black background. I added a beehive element because it would represent the ecosystem of the Hive Blog. There is a long red rectangle that stretch side to side of the card because that would represent the everlasting love of the people to the Hive ecosystem. As per instruction, a QR code that would direct the people to the hiveonboard.com should be placed in the front side of the card and I put a line that says “BE ONE OF US” because this card is intended to invite more people in the Hive ecosystem. At the center of the card, I placed the official Hive Blog logo in a larger scale in order for this card to be identified as a Hive Business Card.
Back Side Design
For the back side, I just duplicated the background and the beehive elements, this is also to create continuity and relativeness to the front side. I added a Hive Logo and the word Hive Pilippines on top because the QR code would direct the person to the discord of Hive Philippines or HivePh. As per instruction, the back side should be designed that it would be identified as a Hive community of the Filipinos. To do that effectively, I somehow redesigned our Philippine Flag by adding two rectangles (blue and red) and the three stars and a sun. I also added a text that says "JOIN US ON DISCORD" to inform the people that by scanning the QR code, it will direct them to the HivePh Discord.
The Process
1. I started this design by generating a code using Beaconstac. It is very easy to use, you just have to paste the link or the url, and then you can generate and download the code.
2. Then I opened my Canva to start designing and layouting my business card.
3. I downloaded the official Hive Logo from here. I used this one because it is already in png. It is always good to use png files in graphic designing.
4. I used different elements and text available from Canva.com to create the whole thing.
I think that would be all for my Hive Business Card Design. I hope you liked it. I also hope that will consider this as an entry. Until next time! Cheers!
