Magayon is a Bicol word which means beautiful
Bicol is my province, my roots and my home. When you heard about "Bicol" what comes into your mind? Maybe Bicol Express or other chili foods? Pili candies? And of course the perfect cone Mt. Mayon?
Whatever it may be I know that it's fun to associate different stuff into a certain place. I am in a part of Bicol that's on the upper region and we have lots of sweet pineapple 🍍. Also, if you try to search "Cory Aquino Boulevard" it'll surely show you that this is the longest boulevard in the Philippines connecting 4 towns of the province of Camarines Norte. This province is my birth place. How've this is not what I want to talk about. I want to visit again Albay Province.
Albay is also part of Bicol Region. It is where the majestic Mt. Mayon is located. I first went to Legazpi City, Albay last 2018. I studied in one of the university there and stayed until 2020 before pandemic. Every day, I can see the peak of Mt. Mayon and I always feel in awe of its beauty. There comes a time that we'll (my friends) visit Quitinday Park and just look at it while we talk about life, and of course how difficult our undergraduate studies is. Most of the time, we went and hike there after final exam.
The topmost photo was captured 2018. We're just 4 in our group, but on 2019 we became 5 as one of my friends transferred in our school. And then the last one is on 2020, when I am trying to learn how to draw.
Here is my minimalist art when we went there with our classmates. The clouds were hiding the peak of the mountain maybe that's the lover of Magayon, as the tale says.
This is my recent photo of Mount Mayon. Taken last June 2022 when I visit Legazpi to fix my papers for my graduation. I took this picture at the same day but of course with different time. I went here with my ChE Department Family, from 3pm until 7pm. I love the view so much. I fell in love once again. I don't know why I am still in love with Magayon even though I am seeing it almost everyday 🧡. I want to go back and visit there with my family. I also want them to experience the calmness that this mountain give me from the past years of studying and getting stress with my college life. I also want to share to them how this good creation of God help me everytime I feel so down and empty.
I am always amazed how this simple mountain can uplift my mood or make me so emotional. Maybe not everyone will understand and maybe those who live near this mountain will find me overreacting but that's what I really feel. Even though I know it's disastrous as it is an active volcano, I still believe it's such a beautiful disaster.
My hometown is almost 5-hour away from Albay, so it's not easy to travel whenever I want to. Maybe next year, May 2023 I'll come back there.
There are other places that I want to visit, but I want to visit first those wonderful places here in my own region. Sta. Magdalena Sorsogon is another place I want, somewhere in Catanduanes and Masbate too and a long list of places. Hope to visit it all if there's an opportunity.
Thanks for being with me!
