Being born into a world full of worries, dreams and the reality of life, I slowly learned that life is not always easy but is always meaningful. I was shaped by the mountains. This is where I grew up, learned how to connect with people, and discovered what simplicity truly means. The cool air, tall trees and quiet surroundings became part of who I am today.
As I welcomed the year 2026, I felt a strong desire to look back and return to where everything started. At the beginning of the year, I wanted to visit the woman who gave life to my mother - my grandmother not in blood but in heart. She is a Tiboli tribe, she is the traditional midwife of our family, the root of our stories, and the reason our values remain strong. I didn't bring anything grand, just a small gift and a thankful heart, but I knew it would be enough.
As Filipinos, we grow up with the values of utang na loob and respect for our elders. Giving time, listening to their stories and simply being present is one of the most beautiful traditions we carry as a family. Even with a simple gift and a short visit, my grandmother felt the love and care deeply. Her smile said it all. It reminded me that love doesn't need to be expensive - it just needs to be sincere.
The journey itself was an adventure. I traveled with my family, riding an elf truck, passing through rocky roads and challenging paths, It was tiring yes, but also full of laughter and excitement. Along the way, we were surrounded by mountains, tall trees and breathtaking views. Every turn of the road brought back memories of my childhood. No matter how far I go, coming back to the place where I was raised always feels different. It feels like home.
When we arrived, Our traditional midwife's grandmother's happiness was pure and simple she didn't ask for much, just our presence. Her joy, her warm welcome, and her gentle laughter made the long trip worth it. In that moment, I realized how powerful love and family truly are.
I went home feeling fulfilled, peaceful and overflowing with happiness. This trip reminded me that no matter how busy life gets, going back to our roots keeps our heart grounded. Starting the year with gratitude, family and love is the best way to move forward.
