Summary: It’s a report of what the community has accomplished so far and a rant at the end. To save yourself some time, just read half of the post. The rest are just some truth bomb most can’t be bothered to understand.
Revisiting the old community goals mentioned here and here, I am pleased to see some gradual changes happen to the account. Here are some accomplishments made:
A. HivePH curation returns increased in APR
From a 3% APR, we have reach 13-14% weekly APR range for the account. This means we boosted the account’s growth efficiency 4x. The amount of rewards that can be given is dependent on the account’s own HP accumulated and been delegated to. To put into perspective how bad the previous system is, the account was frequently sitting at 100% VP not actively curating.
Automating made it efficient as being reliant on manpower to curate only made it less effective in generating rewards. How is this really a community problem in the first place? It is if someone actually gives a flying fuck about the community that’s why the problem has been prevalent for months unnoticed. VP not in used means less rewards being distributed out there.
B. Curation compilation posts having beneficiaries
The old model meant rewards go directly to the hiveph account. There’s really less incentive to upvote the account because again, it’s not like people can be assed to give a fuck about the community. So to add some changes to the model because I wanted more ways to distribute wealth given back to the community, I made the routine of publishing with beneficiaries. Authors featured not only get upvotes but also a cut in whatever the compilation post generates.
It’s a small reward but there’s an incentive for both authors featured and users that want to spread their upvote rewards to multiple authors at once. A small portion of the posts rewards goes to which is a charity program that’s currently on hiatus. Once they get active again, those rewards will eventually be put into good use.
C. Expanding the users being upvoted.
There is a lack of activity when the changes to remove the tag requirement. Users don’t need to use the #hiveph tag to be curated because the bare minimum is using the #philippines. Other qualifications include making posts about the Philippines or being reputed as a Filipino. This allows more opportunities to use the VP for the manual curation side. For the automated curation side, the account follows voting trails made that has made it more efficient as what was mentioned on #1 above.
D. Delegating to Leo.voter
The crude plan before was to raise some tokens for community rewards for contests instead of just plain liquid Hive all the time. But seeing the lack of user activity from the community I suppose those community contests can just wait while Leo tokens just stack up. I might even just sell them and convert to liquid Hive. But lately I just settled for a little tipping experiment.
The idea was to explore more ways to distribute the rewards just stagnating on the hiveph account. I tasked for the job but it looks like I’ll just scrap the idea. The tipping was a sub for an upvote because it’s 0.1 Hive is more than what this account is capable of giving even at 100% at the time of this writing.
That concludes the report on what the community account has accomplished so far. The paragraphs below are just rambles you may or may not enjoy. Turn back now and save yourself some time.
In case you ain’t up to date with what happened, I, was appointed as lead for HivePH by
until she gets her personal stuff settled so she can takeover. I didn’t volunteer for this but hey, anyone can step up to the role if they present themselves if they pass.
Running the community account is pure volunteer work and is another way to be unproductive. If I had to choose which is more productive than to write the report above vs doing something else, I’d choose the latter because that’s more productive use of my time. Reflecting on the weeks trying to micromanage what goes on the background from curation compilations, planning and reward distribution, it’s really not worth anyone’s time to bother.
To put into perspective, that 5% beneficiary set anyone gets it equivalent to 1 to 3 pesos at best (during the time of this writing at these prices). Any curator or community manager worth their salt would be better off doing their own blog if they’re after lucrative ventures. This is the point where I’m just doing the whole shit show as pure community service, because that 1 to 3 peso ain’t worth my salt just to actually read the posts I upvote and feature on the page.
Yes, I do manually curate the posts featured on the curation compilations even the video links you have to show and like I said earlier, it ain’t worth my salt to bother but I do. This makes me understand members of the team running the community.
- Plantito, SEO article writer, and businessman.
- Traditional artist in hiatus.
- Engineer finding true love, and trader in hiatus.
- Mother, blogger, and entrepreneur.
- Blogger, and Researcher.
- Blogger, trader, and entrepreneur.
- Blogger and getting married.
Understanding how the benefits vs the costs of bothering, it’s not really worth it running a community. Every member has their own drama to deal with and it’s not that different from an average user. It’s just 2 to 4 people occasionally talking on about management topics nowadays. I blame none of the staff because it already takes a few push ups to even bother getting involved in something as community volunteer work. There’s even a daily mantra to forget I’m being too charitable with my time for this drag show.
It’s more lucrative to bother with your own blogs and go on with your life than actually thinking in terms of community building. Because it takes a different set of wiring on your habits to be community focused.
Well the option to just drop the whole HivePH community is always on the table though. I don’t mind ending the whole show while I’m in charge for shits and giggles. I still have the patience to continue the program for now. This segment was just a build up for the main punch line I wanted to highlight below.
The reason hiveph votes are inconsistent with users is due to amount of time anyone is willing to put up with curating manually. And curation requires thinking beyond the guidelines set. If you can be assed to give a fuck about the community, then don’t expect the community to give a fuck about you. That’s the golden rule here.
If you’re the type of user that isn’t bothered that your posts aren’t getting engagement, or allot some time to engage with others on the platform beyond your social circle, then don’t expect any support. This account may upvote you but I certainly won't.
That’s just my curation preference but if other curators of the team feel strongly against this guideline they could just recommend the upvote since it’s a democratic way of managing how decisions are made here.
I watch users using the #hiveph and #philippines tag and it’s not content alone that convinces me to put a vote on them. It’s how often they bother commenting on other people’s post and who they comment on. If your circle is just composed of the same names interacting for a long period of time, then there’s really no point trying to invest more time putting some stake on you for free.
Get the fuck out of your comfort zone and talk to people at a global scale. If you’re just going to treat the place as a content dump then don’t expect the place to be appreciative about your entitled existence. Or just enjoy posting on Steemit and keep sucking Justin Sun’s dick while you’re at it.
The level of entitlement is so high that just by dropping content out in the abyss you expect curators to do the legwork and promote the work for you. Listen, visibility is also influenced by the people you form a network with, if you’re just sticking to your own circle then don’t expect to see your network expand. Because why should people be bothered to invest in you when you can’t invest on them too? The whole argument that you got messengers and Discord isn’t going to explain the lack of new names forming into your circle, it is reflected on the blockchain. This flawed argument is one of the best excuses I’ve heard in a while.
Anyone can start their own PH community and that’s perfectly fine. That’s why I opted to just minimize the curation requirements to using #philippines tag instead of #hiveph. This is just being faithful to the mission of using the account to support Filipino users and new communities popping would get the support too. Until a new lead steps up to want to position, the changes announced will stay until further notice.
