" Learning the Culture and History "
During grade school, Cebu Island is already known during my History class. Most of the Information about being a Filipino will be found on this Island, the topics and the story in the books about Cebu makes my little mind curios, and dreamed that someday I will visit this place And here I am now, little by little making my dream from my childhood into reality.
Visiting a Heritage photo and Painting Exhibit like this reminds me of my childhood. It feels like I'm just reading my Old History book (Feeling bookworm 😅).
The First Filipino Hero
These amazing photos and paintings of individual artists are interesting. The photos and paintings speak the message and story about Cebu Island. You will learn the History that happened during the Spanish colonization, the culture they have, the festival, and the type of foods that Cebu island is the best of.
I visited this Exhibit last year in the month of December. When I learned that they started opening the Heritage Exhibit on November 28, 2022, at Robinsons Galleria Cebu. I put it on my calendar for me to remind me to visit this interesting event.
In the exhibit, you will see old photos of old structures in Cebu like the Fort of San Pedro which is considered the oldest Fort in the Philippines that is built in 1565. The Cebu Cathedral which also built during the era of Spanish Colonization in the Philippines. You will also find the Sto. Niño de Cebu Church, the house of miraculous baby Jesus. It is also the oldest Christian artifact in the Philippines, a gift by Ferdinand Magellan to Raja Humabon and to his Family. You will also find the known Carbon Market and the Magellan Cross.
There are also photos showing the waterfront of Cebu City and the activities on the port like trading of different products such as Copras and Rice. It is amazing to know the kind of transportation they have before and the way they trade the products.
The Exhibit also shows the livelihood of Cebuanos before like the crafting of baskets, and chairs that are made of abaca, rattan, and other fibrous materials (They say that this culture is Dying Craft nowadays in Cebu) there are few this time doing this crafting for a living. Other than Crafting, Cebu is also known for making great guitars. Most guitar enthusiasts prefer to buy their guitar on Cebu Island.
The Exhibit also shows the favorite food of Filipinos, The Pork Lechon. The Lechon of Cebu is one of the highlights of the Island. I will testify it guys, cause Cebu's Lechon is one the most delightful lechon I've tried so far (Sorry for Waray-waray Lechon guys, just telling the truth 😅), especially in the Carcar Lechon. It is one of the best, you should try it when you visit Cebu Island. Most of the partners for Lechon the hanging rice or a "PUSO". The rice inside coconut leaves is shaped like a hearth.
The highlight of the Exhibit is the SINULOG FESTIVAL. The grandest and biggest festival is held in the Philippines. The festival itself attracts an estimated 1 million tourists (Local and international) from different places. This is an annual festival every third Sunday of January, a religious festival offered to the miraculous child Sto. Niño. I've attended Sinulog Festival 3 times already, it is fun indeed (also a very tiring day 😅) and I'm still in awe's how the people genuinely devoted the miraculous child Sto. Niño.
This Exhibit makes me look back on my experience here now in Cebu, It also makes me explore the past of this Island by learning through the painting and the photos of what happened those days. Learning the culture and the history of the structure that is now considered a heritage. I didn't visit yet of some Historical places in Cebu and I'm excited to explore them all.
That's it Hivers for this blog, I hope you enjoy this kind of article and learned interesting information while visiting this kind of exhibit. Thank you for dropping by my little hive room.
