My father came home with (bagongon) “sea snails” that he gathered near the shore. He went shell gathering with his coworkers. Since he works in Lapu-Lapu and lives near the sea, he was able to get some bagongon for us to cook.
“Bagongon” or (sea snails) for breakfast was delicious. At first, it was really hard to eat because they are very small, but later on, we got used to it. My father cracked the tip of the shell so it would be easier for us to eat.
There are different ways to eat it, but my father taught us that we need to suck from the base of the shell to get the meat inside. He was right—I tried sucking it, and I was really able to get the meat.
This is what “bagongon” or sea snails looks like before cooking. I cleaned it first because it was still dirty when my father brought it home. Look how cute it is! I think it’s cuter than the forest snail we usually see, because this one is found in the sea, especially when the tide is low.
We cooked it by sautéing and simmering it so we could enjoy the soup. It was very delicious and satisfying. We were really full even though it took us a long time to finish eating because it’s quite tricky to eat. Every bite of rice was paired with sucking the bagongon from its shell. We added chili for a spicy kick.
When we tasted the seafood, it had a slightly sweet and bitter flavor. The bitterness comes from its bile, but it was still delicious.
So this was our breakfast—yummy and delicious. Let’s eat, guys! Hehehe.
