Hello, my dear Hivers! It’s me again, , your college blogger from Cebu. A lot of things have happened over the past few days, and one of the biggest was our finals week. As 3rd-year college students, we really worked hard and pushed ourselves just to pass. Our professors had different ways of giving exams—one of them was demo teaching. So far, I can proudly say that I survived, and we all did.
I just want to share one of the most memorable experiences we had in our Functional English subject. At first, our professor told us to prepare a one-act drama that would last for not less than 20 minutes. Because of this, I really studied how to create a story. Even though I’m a Wattpad writer, I honestly struggled with making one. But in the end, our professor changed their mind and gave us a different task instead—a speech choir.
Since there were 21 students in our class, we were divided into two groups. I belonged to Group 1. Our practice time was very limited, but we were eager to get a high grade. That’s why we gave our best and practiced seriously, even if it meant going home late, as long as we could perfect the song and choreography.
We chose “A Psalm of Life” as our piece. It is a reflection about life, a song that gives strength and purpose, reminding us of our purpose in this world.
Before the performance day, we prepared all the materials we needed, such as apparel, cloth, a carton, and a Bible. Even though our time was limited, everything went well. We helped each other and worked as one team to make our performance successful.
Our costume theme was all white—we looked like “ghosts,” which made it fun and interesting. There were even some creepy moments because of the song’s lines and tone, but that made the performance more powerful.
We were extremely happy because our speech choir was successful. Even though we lacked time, when it was time to perform, we gave it our all.
What made us even happier was that all of us performers (4 performers from math and science) received a 1.0 grade in the subject. Our joy was beyond words—it felt like our happiness reached the heavens because all our efforts truly paid off.
This experience taught me to always believe in myself and in my groupmates. Nothing is impossible as long as you are confident and give your best when you present.
