I had an opportunity to visit one of the most prestigious schools in Toledo City, the De Lasalle Andres Soriano Memorial College. This is a work related visit that required us to stay in the campus for a week, so my colleagues and i will stay on their guest house.
It took us 2 hours of land trip from Cebu City to get to the campus but i enjoyed my me time in the van. Upon arriving, we were greeted by the school administrators and escorted us to where we are going to stay.
I am excited and thrilled because this is my first overnight fieldwork and the longest time that I'll be away from home. The guest house that my colleagues and i are going to stay is inside the campus. Before leaving us in our room to unpack, the friendly personnel gave us a few reminders to keep in mind. First, there's no water in the shower in the morning. So she advised us to fill the bucket with water the night before, or we take a shower at night. Second, during night time, sari sari stores are closed. If we need to buy some necessities, she advised us to buy it ahead. Lastly, she handed us the key of the house so we could lock the door when we're out.
The first two days of our stay was an adjustment phase for me especially when we take turns using the bathroom to shower. But as the week progressed, i already felt at ease.
Our routine is the same everyday. Upon waking up, we take turns in the bathroom, eat breakfast, and wait until 9 am to start our work. Sometimes we hear the flag ceremony from the covered court.
At lunch, we go to their canteen and eat. It makes me reminisce my high school days.
After school hours, we then walk back to our room. Dinner is already prepared by the staffs. After dinner, sometimes we watch Netflix, finish our work, or simply go to bed early.
Here are some of our meals
On our last day, it was Linggo ng Wika so students were wearing Barong Tagalog and Filipiniana. They held their culminating program in the covered court.
Its Friday and we are now ready to leave the campus. I am so glad i took this challenge to live in a dorm for a week. Its not the comfiest place to be but i feel like its one step closer to living independently. I am also grateful for my colleagues for being great room mates.
I hope to have more adventures like this soon. See you in my next one.
Sending some love and light!
