Happy Tuesday, my dear Hivers! Its barely in the middle of the week but I'm excited for the weekend already. Haha. Around this time last week, I took a leave from work to visit the Sto Nino church and had some food trip along the way. It has always been like this back then.
Kwekwek is a coated boiled egg dipped in sauce. This is my favorite amongst all street foods. The orange color is just a good coloring, although I'm not exactly sure why they chose color orange.
Tempura on the other hand is another popular street food made from fish paste. My parents often say this is really unhealthy because it's too processed. But from time to time, I would sneak out for some tempura.
The secret for a tasty street food is their sauce. It has to be delicious, one with a combination of sweet, spicy and umami flavor- otherwise, the snack would be a total distasteful. To add to its taste, some vendors give minced cucumbers for free as a complementary to the sauce. These street foods are rampant especially during Sinulog festival.
After church, I went straight to Chowking restaurant for some refreshments. The weather was humid at 3pm. I ordered their Halo-Halo, a mixed dessert or shaved ice, milk, leche flan, and many other ingredients. This brings nostalgia too. I remember back in college, this is my comfort food every after a major exam. Even as I started working, is still eat the same comfort food when I'm stressed out.
I guess there are things that are still the same. Despite living quite far from this area, I wouldn't mind going back here from time to time.
That's it for today's blog. See you in my next one!
Sending some love and light
With love, Jane
