It was a sunny afternoon when I visited my colleague at the hospital. She had a seizure episode at the office the other day and was rushed to the hospital. I wasn't at office when it happened but I knew it was bad. Prior to the incident, we already noticed her being pale and tired. Her annual physical exam also showed that she's extremely low in hemoglobin.
Long story short, we found out that she's diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease. One that needs regular dialysis.
I was utterly shocked by this phenomenon. She is only 26. Not only would this cause inconvenience to her family but also unwanted hospital bills. Until now, we still don't know the real cause of the disease. Did she take some pills or foods that deteriorated her kidney? Was it stress? Lifestyle?
I googled the disease and learned that the main function of the kidney is to filter out toxins from our body. In order to support your kidneys, drinking lots of water, less sodium intake, and eating green leafy vegetables is already a great start.
But in a hindsight, Chronic Kidney Disease could really happen to anyone. We can only take precautions and be mindful with our intakes and lifestyle habits.
It also made me reflect about my own lifestyle. Am I being healthy? In our household, processed foods like noodles, canned goods, and chips are not allowed. As a noodle-lover, I would normally sneak around eating ramen or pancit canton in my room. Now I would think twice before rebelling because I now understand the protection it gives us. Being sick is expensive.
My dear Hivers, life is too short, so let's stay healthy and thriving.
That's it for today's blog. See you in my next one!
Sending some love and light
Love, Jane
