Going back to school is the most awaited moment for all of the students out there, and my cousin, who was with us, was very excited about it. On August 22,2022, their first day of classes started. She woke up early, dressed up, packed her things and went to school after a long time of waiting.
To be honest, even if I'm not studying now, I was excited too, because real engagement inside the school is going to happen again and that's what they need. Students have suffered long enough caused by this pandemic. They were asked how they planned to continue their studies in light of the new normal.
Now that the face-to-face classes were approved by our government, I can see the smiles on their faces because they don't have to find where the signal is just to be present in their online classes. Some students here reported that they even climbed a tree just to get that signal. Just imagine how dangerous it is, but they did it for the sake of their study. Teachers were also given the impossible task of how to handle their classes, especially in producing and distributing those printed modules. I'm sure they had a rough time doing it in far-flung areas.
As I said earlier, my cousin went to school again and together with my grandma we prepared all the things she needed, starting with her breakfast.
Bringing a lunch pack
I'm the one who's cooking our food for the morning, and my grandma is the one who's preparing my cousin's lunch pack. Since the school here is at a far distance, she brings her food for lunch in a container. Her food is composed of rice and a viand. We're doing this to save money because the price of all the food out there has gone up for good.
Back then, when I was still studying in elementary, I could buy a viand for only 5 pesos for one order. I also brought rice before, and it saved me a lot of allowance. My allowance back then was only 20 pesos, or $0.20 dollars. I'll use half of it for recess and for my lunch. The remaining will be put in my piggy bank.
Saving money in a piggy bank
Speaking of piggy banks, I told my cousin to save from her allowance as well. So far, she's doing well with her savings.I also taught her to only buy what she needed. Her allowance is higher than mine before, but it does not exceed $2. Well, we're still lucky to have allowance to spend in school. Others don't, so it's something to be thankful for.
What are they learning in school?
As a supportive cousin, every time she goes home after school, I ask what happened throughout the day. What they discuss and, as expected, she told me that they start the day by introducing themselves. My memories of this one came back, and I was smiling as she told me more. It seems that this tradition is still alive.
I'm the one who taught her in her modules before, and I'm really surprised for them to start their lesson by writing in cursive. Well, we didn't do it since we focused on answering those thick modules, but despite that, she knows how to write but not in cursive.
Another thing that I did for her as they started in school was helping her with her projects. It's not that long yet but I can see the list of projects awaiting my cousin and me ofcourse lol.
Just the other day I did her MYS or Master Your Skills window cards. This learning material is for them to master addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. As well as doing some in fraction. My patience has been tested once again. This one requires it and I'm lucky that I did this before that's why I can handle it now.
I enjoyed it also because my memories in elementary are coming back and it's just good to be part in her journey as a student in this school year. I hope she studies well and she may keep in mind all the important lessons she will learn.
It took me whole day to finish it and this is the final product. I thought that I will mess up in writing what's in front but I was surprised that I still remember how to write using a marker lol.
This is just the beginning and I'm waiting for the others to come with excitement.hihi. Hoping that this kind of setup will continue until they finish this school year and no more modules.
Thank you for reading.
