December 15, 2023. It was the last day of school for the year 2023. As a tradition, we close this year with a Christmas celebration.
I teach in a Catholic school here in Roxas City, Capiz. As a Catholic school we always start the day with a prayer service.
The students then proceeded to their respective classrooms for their Christmas Party. Since I have no advisory class, I was free to roam around at first.
I also did some network troubleshooting first before I went to the class that invited me to join their celebration. They were playing some games when I entered their room. I decided to roam around and check the other rooms first. Everybody is enjoying the games in their respective rooms.
This was outside the Kindergarten room.
Some kids started distributing gifts to their teachers.
I went back to the room of the Eleventh grade where I was invited to join. There have lots of food, but what really grabbed my attention... (or the food that I grabbed the most)... was the sushi. I think I ate five pieces.
Then we had the exchanging of gifts part... which has become a part of the Christmas tradition.
After lunch, one of the our new teachers was so elated for all the gifts she received from the students. In fact, she's the one who received the most gifts from the students. She received so much that all the gifts are overflowing her table. She could not just stop smiling that day.
Community Pantry
In the afternoon, it was a different setting. The school has an adopted baranggay for the outreach programs. A number of families were invited... those who were identified as the "least" in their community.
We had a short program for them, including singing to them a few Christmas carols.
The highlight though was the community pantry. They were given some grocery items like a kilo of rice, some canned goods, noodles, vegetables and other stuff... at least they would have something to eat for maybe two to three days.
In Closing
Every Christmas, we decorate our homes and offices with blinking lights, Christmas trees with shiny ornaments. We celebrate the season with parties and exchanging of gifts.
However, the true spirit of Christmas is the spirit of giving. For, more than 2000 years, someone gave the greatest gift of all to mankind...
Merry Christmas!
