Hello dear friends :))
Last weekend me and my whole family went down to Butuan City to visit my mother’s brother and his family. It is not too far away from where we live in Cagayan de Oro the drive takes about three hours if you don’t stop too much along the way. I have never been to Butuan before even though my family is always talking about how nice the place is so i was really looking forward to going there.
We were getting close to the city when my uncle sent us a text message. He said he would meet us at a certain spot because he wanted to show us a shorter way to get to their house. I was just sitting in the car looking out of the window watching all the tall coconut trees and green plants go past us when all of a suden my dad pulled the car over to the side of the road..
Then my uncle came up to the car and said “Come on out you have to see this thing right here.” And when i got out of the car saw it there was an old hanging bridge that goes all the way across a body of water. I immediately took my phone out of my pocket because i knew right then that i had to take a picture of it. Let me tell you this bridge was nothing like the big concrete bridges..
That we have in the city where we live. The wooden boards on the floor of the bridge were all worn down from being out in the sun and the rain for a long time. Some of the boards were not next to each other so there were spaces between them you could look straight down through those spaces and see the water below. Thick ropes and metal cables were tied to the sides.
To hold the bridge up and those ropes were connected to big posts on both sides of the water. On both ends of the bridge there are lots and lots of trees and bushes they are all very green and they grow all over the place like no one is cutting them back. When you look down the bridge to the other side you can see hills far away and those hills are all covered.
With tall grass and more trees. The water under the bridge was very calm and still it was like looking at a big mirror because you could see the sky and the trees in it.. I started walking onto the bridge very slowly because i was a little bit scared that it might move too much when i step on it. And sure enough every time i took a step.
The bridge would wobble and sway a little bit! But there were other people walking on it too and they did not seem to be worried at all. Some of them were carrying big baskets full of fruits or vegetables and other people were just walking together and talking to each other. My mother told me that the people who live around there use this bridge every single day.
They use it to get to the other side of the water where their farms are and where some of their houses are built. For those people it is just a normal part of their day but for me it felt like i was walking on a bridge that was part of an adventure. After we walked all the way across the bridge we had to walk a little bit more on a dirt path until we got to my aunt and uncle’s house.
When we got there they were waiting for us at the door with big smiles on their faces. They had already set up the table with lots of food there was grilled fish there was kinilaw which tasted really good and there were fresh vegetables that they grew in their own backyard garden. While we were eating lunch they told us more things about the bridge. They said it has been there for many years and years.
