Moments I'll Never Forget: My Work Immersion Highlights (The Preparation)
Good day, my dearest Hive friends! This blog is all about my work immersion highlights (Part 1).
One afternoon, we were asked what course we wanted to take in college. At the time, I was still very undecided, so I just chose randomly, my first choice was Chemical Engineering, and my second choice was BS Math. We didn’t really know what it was for, so we didn’t take it seriously.
After a few weekss, we completely forgot about it. Then there was a parents’ meeting about immersion, and that’s when we found out that our first and second choices were actually for our work immersion.
My teacher ended up choosing BS Math for me, so she assigned me to a school here in our municipality. But guys, I really didn’t want to teach. I was actually traumatized by one of my teachers back in elementary, and I was afraid of becoming like her. That’s why I really begged my teacher to let me take an engineering-related immersion instead.
Then, the earthquake happened, the earthquake that shook our entire lives. It was the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck here in Cebu Province. We thought our immersion wouldn’t continue anymore because most of the buildings in our area were damaged. It even took almost a month before we were able to go back to classes, and at that time, we were still doing modular learning.
Our work immersion teacher told us that she was just waiting for the announcement that we were already allowed to proceed with our immersion. Of course, safety had to be the priority, especially since aftershocks were still happening during that time.
At that time, I was actually hoping that the immersion wouldn't push through because I was scared of what might happen. I was really anxious back then. But then I realized that if I don't try it, how will I ever learn new things?
So Christmas and New Year passed, and still, there was no news about our immersion.
Not until the end of January, when our teacher finally told us that our work immersion would push through. At that time, I felt really mixed emotions, but more than anything, I felt excited.
Before our work immersion even started, we still had a lot of things to do, such as getiing a medical check-up and attending meetings about the do’s and don’ts in the workplace. We were also told in advance that we would be treated as actual workers during immersion, with no special treatment, so we were already advised on what we needed to do and how to act.
As for the medical, it was really tiring. At first, we were told that only our vitals would be checked, but when we got to the doctor, we found out that an X-ray was also required, huhu. We were honestly shocked, especially since most of us were doing it for the first time. That’s also when we found out about our health conditions, whether we were okay or if something was wrong.
That's all for this blog, this part was mostly about the preparation. Thank you for reading, and see you in my next blog!
