Hello, Hive family! I hope you’re all having a bright and happy day. I’m excited to share what’s cooking in our kitchen today, fresh seafood dishes that made our lunch and dinner extra special. Since I had some flexi-time, I got to prepare everything myself, and I can’t wait to show you each dish along with the photos. Let’s dive in!
Crabs (Alimango)
For lunch, I prepared fresh crabs simply by cooking them in a pan without oil. This method lets the natural flavors shine through, sweet, briny, and rich, just as crabs should be. The shells turned a beautiful orange, and the aroma filled the kitchen, reminding me of seaside meals. Sometimes, the simplest preparation brings out the best taste.
Sapsap (Slipmouth Fish)
Next came the sapsap, known in English as slipmouth fish. I cooked it as paksiw, simmered in vinegar with onions and spices. The tangy broth perfectly complements the delicate flesh of the fish, making it a comforting dish that pairs well with rice. Paksiw is one of those timeless Filipino recipes that never fails to warm the soul.
Tulingan (Mackerel Tuna)
Finally, I made tulingan, or mackerel tuna, with a savory broth and green leafy vegetables. The soup was light yet flavorful, with the vegetables adding freshness and balance to the rich tuna. This dish is perfect for dinner, especially since my boyfriend will be arriving from Manila before mealtime. It’s hearty, nourishing, and best enjoyed together.
All of these seafood delights came from a local vendor who visited our neighborhood this morning, selling house-to-house. Thanks to my flexi-time schedule today, I had the chance to cook and prepare everything in advance. Sharing these meals and the photos with the Hive community feels like inviting everyone to our table.
