Today was a normal day at the laboratory. In the morning, we did not have many tasks. We swept the floor and observed what the medical technologists and other staff were doing inside the laboratory. I really appreciated how welcoming everyone was, especially Ma’am Cathy and Kuya Julius, who is an OJT in the laboratory. They love joking around and asking us questions, which made us feel comfortable and included.
Before lunchtime, we helped Danny—another student assigned to the laboratory for his immersion—prepare an attendance sheet on bond paper. Since Elizabeth and I did not have much to do, we took turns helping him.
After a while, one of our groupmates from the OPD informed us that there was a patient scheduled for stitching. Elizabeth and I asked permission first before going to observe. When we arrived, one of the nurses was already preparing the anesthesia. My groupmate, Yanah, explained to me what happened to the patient. According to her, the old man was hit by a piece of roofing material, and he had a long but not very deep cut on his head. I was standing a bit far, so I was not able to see clearly, but one of our groupmates documented the process, which allowed me to see the wound.
During the stitching procedure, one of our groupmates suddenly approached me. I was shocked because she looked very pale and suddenly collapsed on the floor. I panicked and held her because I thought she had fainted. It turned out that she just felt weak. We immediately assisted her outside the room since she was very pale. After a short while, she felt better. She said she felt weak because she was standing directly in front of the patient’s head while documenting the stitching, so she clearly saw everything.
In the afternoon, Elizabeth, Danny, and I continued making the attendance sheet. Before going home, we cleaned the laboratory by sweeping and mopping the floor.
