Typhoons have a significant effect on our houses, businesses, and sometimes people even lose their lives. As soon as a typhoon is reported on television, it causes fear and anxiety among the citizens. But despite the fear , this is when people start preparing, such as going to evacuation centers and putting important things in a safe place. Nevertheless, we still cannot know the full level of the damage a typhoon might cause , as there might be flooding or falling trees.
Even though the surroundings were very cold, we had to return the things that were still in the tent. There was a lot of mud on our feet , but we continued to move. The wood used to make the tent remained standing; only the top cover was destroyed by the wind. There was also a tent near us that was completely destroyed and had all fallen down.
The banana trees were broken, and some other trees had fallen , causing damage to the electricity lines. The surroundings were very messy due to the strong wind. Fallen bamboo also covered a nearby tent.
There was one big tree that was about to fall, and a power line was at risk. So our neighbors immediately took action to address it. They slowly cut each branch, and some of them started pulling the tree from above , making sure that the wire would be safe. Due to their collective effort , they successfully dealt with it and started cleaning the area.
I had thought that Typhoon Tino would be worse , just like those typhoons in the past years; thankfully, it wasn't. However, hearing bad news from different places due to the typhoon was also saddening. Some areas were flooded, and many houses, cars , and lives were lost especially in the City.
The damage caused by the typhoon is a clear reminder of the power of nature and the importance of preparedness. Despite the comfort that our area was saved from the most severe impact , our hearts go out to those who suffered significant losses , and we hope for their quick recovery and rebuilding.
