Hello everyone, my name is Melchor Jay Cal. I'm 20 years old and I live in Ilaya, Danao City. I'm an incoming third-year college student at CTU-Danao (Cebu Technological University) pursuing a Bachelor of Industrial Technology, major in computers.
During my free time, I enjoy reading Korean webtoons and Japanese manga online, watching series on Netflix, and helping my mom with chores. One of my favorite Korean webtoons are Hero Killer and Remarriage Empress, and I also loved some Korean BL stories that I cannot disclose the names because they might be inappropriate. But yeah, I love Korean romance, especially teen romances. I also love Japanese mangas. I love diabolical stories like psychological thrillers about murderers, like that. I really love it! One of those are Pumpkin Night and Death Note, and etc. A fun fact about me is that my name, "Melchor," comes from one of the Three Wise Men who are also known as the three kings. According to our Roman Catholic beliefs, these three kings followed the brightest star that shone during Jesus' birth to find him in Nazareth. They were wise enough to recognize the significance of the star and follow it...
Being an IT student at City Danao is very interesting.I've never planned to be an IT student because I have no idea about computers and everything, but look who's enrolled in it, right? Me! I don't know what came to my head when I decided to enroll in IT, but if there's a reason, I think it's because of my rush and undecided decisions. Like, when I really think about it now, I have no background in being an IT student. I was a cookery student back in high school and senior high school, and then I suddenly jumped to the IT department with no background at all. You know what I mean? I'm here, and it's like I jumped into a cave full of lions.
So yeah, and with nothing... I faced a lot of challenges during my first and second year in college as an IT student. But it doesn't mean that I didn't enjoy my college life. It was pretty fun because I met a lot of interesting people and enjoyed some moments. For example, our acquaintance party during my first year was so bomb because I think that was my first college party, and it was so amazing. The foam party and everything, to dance to the music! Oh, I also enjoyed our intramurals. It was so fun because it was one week with no classes, lol.
You might be wondering how I got here. Well, I was invited by my friend, coworker, and spelling bee partner, Ms. . She invited me and my friends to join the Hive to help us improve our English skills. Our jobs require us to speak English every day, and I think Ms.
thought that joining a platform like this, where we write blogs, would enhance our English skills, writing, and grammar. She knew that expanding our network and learning from others would be a valuable part of our growth. I also want to engage or meet new people. Not just that, but I want to share my experiences with you here as well. That's why, I immediately attended an orientation for a thorough discussion about Hive. With that, now I am here!
I'm a bit of an overthinker, always worrying about the future and what might happen. Change scares me, even though I know it's a natural part of life. I'm a bit of a scaredy-cat when it comes to new things, but I try my best to be brave and face my fears head-on. I'm also a very caring person, always putting others' needs before my own. I love helping people and making them happy.
Right now, I'm an ESL teacher, and I absolutely love it! It's so rewarding to see the kids learn and grow, and I love getting to know them and be their friend. Teaching them new things is so exciting, and I feel like I'm constantly learning and growing myself. It's definitely a challenging job, but it's also incredibly fulfilling.
I think one of the hardest things about life is accepting that you can't have everything you want. If you could have everything, I'd have you! But it's just not realistic. It's a lesson I'm still learning, and it's not always easy.
Sometimes, I jump into decisions without thinking them through. Like, when I decided to become an IT student even though my background was in cookery. I even got an NC3 in Events Management despite being an IT student!
Now, I'm an ESL teacher, which is a far cry from my original path. I guess you could say I'm a bit of a free spirit, always open to new experiences and challenges. I'm also a bit cautious about getting close to people. I've noticed that when you get really close to someone, sometimes the boundaries start to blur, and you might end up disrespecting them without even realizing it. It's like you feel so comfortable that you forget the importance of those boundaries. It's something I'm still working on, and I'm trying to find a balance between being close to people and maintaining healthy boundaries.
I'm still figuring out who I am and where I want to go in life. But I'm excited about the journey and all the adventures that await me. I'm grateful for the people in my life who support me and encourage me to be the best version of myself. I hope you'll join me on this journey and share your own stories with me.
