Many people run a race for the prize, but some run not only for it but for something else, they run for their health.
Good day dear Hiveians. Meet my husband. He loves to ride his motorbike for long rides. He is a sporty guy and his favorite one is basketball. Last February 4, he joined our school's 5k Fun Run and he requested I write about his run. But before I will share about his Fun Run participation, be with me as I'll go back two years ago on his life.
Physically Fit We Thought
Two years ago my husband was physically fit and active. He seldom got sick because he always does exercise and plays basketball once or twice a week. He never runs out of things to do. Every time there is a Church construction or repair, he will always help the workers we were paying because he thinks it can help us save money.
He has no vices. He was never into alcoholic drinks or smoking and surely he has enough sleep than I have 😂. Because of his lifestyle, I never thought of him getting sick at all. And then came the years of the pandemic, so he was not able to go out to play basketball and do jogging for a long time. The stay-at-home situation brought boredom to him.
Sudden Sadness
And when our first-born child was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, he could not accept what had happened. I observed the changes in his body and character (he easily got upset). I did not mind it until last mid of September 2021, my husband got a high fever and shivered at dawn for three consecutive days. I gave him home remedies and over-the-counter medicines which were a great help in recovering from fever and chills. But he still felt tremors on his hands and feet the following days.
This was taken (in September 2021) on the first day he got a fever.
Months later, I thought he was getting better but he noticed that his tremors were getting worst each day and he sweats too much even if he was resting. Aside from that, he started to lose weight and cannot sleep well. I was worried already and told him to have a check-up but only replied that nothing was wrong with him.
The picture above was taken in 2019, months before the pandemic struck. Compared to the picture below taken two months after his first fever and chills, a big difference in his body would be seen. From 71 kilograms down to 65 kilograms in just two months.
Need To Do Something
Because I was already worried seeing him struggling to write his sermon outlines because of his tremors, I urged him to go to the Doctor. He did not listen to me. But when he could hardly walk and was almost out of breath while preaching, he decided to do it.
New Year's Eve 2021. The sudden drop in his weight was very obvious. He was already on three weeks of medication.
It was three days of crying in front of him, compiling him to go to the doctor for a check-up at last he listened to me. In the first week of December 2021, we went to one of the Doctor's clinics nearest to our town and requested an Executive Panel.
In his laboratory results, the Doctor found out that his SGPT and SGOT were above normal and his TSH was Low. He has a thyroid problem. I'd search for the causes and his too much sadness and stress may trigger this.
Still thankful for the rest of the laboratory results.
His X-ray result was normal.
His ECG had a little problem and the Doctor said that it is because of stress and that he needs to rest.
Those were the medicine he first took for two months for his liver and thyroid problems. The TSH needs to be treated for a long time. Until now, he is still on medication for his thyroid problem but thanks to God he has gained back his weight and everything is back to normal.
Restart a Healthy Life
Now that he is getting back to normal, he makes sure to maintain that which is good for his health. The food he eats, enough time in sleeping, and weekly exercise. Most of the time he runs every early morning or when I came home from school.
He was still blessed that he was able to recover from his illness which he felt he was almost dying at that time. As a steward of our health and body, taking care of it should be one of our life's priorities.
The Color Fun Run
And when he heard that our school would have a 5k Fun Run, he was so excited to join. It was his second time joining our school's Color Fun Run. The first one was four years ago.
He woke up as early as 3 am and got himself ready for the event. After a little warm-up and stretching he did, he drove to the school at 3:30 am since it was a 15 to 20-minute ride from our home.
When he arrived there, the participants were busy with the registration and after did a Zumba dance for the warm-up.
He forgot to take pictures while running. But he told me that running with many other runners was so enjoyable. He also helped fetched water for the coloring.
The first picture that he sent to me while he was still in the venue was this. 😁 Before that day, I told him that Indayclara will join the Fun Run and he did not miss the opportunity to take a picture with her.
He knew that there were professional runners who joined and that for sure he could not win the race, but he was so proud and happy that he was able to finish the 5-kilometer Color Fun Run.
That is all for this post. Thank you for reading. With love mommyjane. 😘
