Hey everyone! So yesterday afternoon I went to my uncle’s farm to help pick coconuts it was so much fun! When I got there the farm looked great. Lots of tall coconut trees everywhere.
leaves moving in the wind and green plants all over the ground. Uncle was already picking up the nuts that had fallen down so I got right to work too. We got tons of
green coconuts. Some were still new with leaves on them others had been on the ground a little while but were still good. I kept thinking about how yummy
coconut soup is the one with chicken and thick milk from the nut. So good! We also found some yellow coconuts in the bushes perfect for drinking the
water or eating the sweet soft meat inside. Then I saw something odd one of the old trees had a hole near the bottom. It looked cut out
not like bugs or wind did it. I asked uncle about it later. He said sometimes farmers make holes to check if the tree is healthy,
or to get sap for making tuba or vinegar. But he said not all holes are okay if it’s messy and has sawdust around it,
bugs or sickness might be hurting the tree. He said to ask a farmer if you are not sure. After a couple hours we had way too many
coconuts to carry at once we had to make two trips with heavy sacks! My arms were tired but happy because we will cook
lots of good food with them. Coconuts are really important they give us food money and even things to build houses with. Have you ever picked coconuts before or do you have a favorite way to eat them?
