I am again my people, after having made the last publication I feel that it is easier to continue writing and telling new stories since that is what adventures are all about. The one I am going to tell you about is dated January 28th of this year.
Adelso Rodriguez, is the protagonist of this adventure, he lives in Buenos Aires and is a co-worker and friend of my son Andres Eduardo, he came to Venezuela in November to spend vacations with his family, and since we met, he told me that he wanted to go to the town of Choroni by bicycle, at first I had my doubts because of the lack of training since it is one of the most demanding routes of Henry Pittier Park, but I remembered that he is a person with a strong will.
We went to pick Claudia up very early, we had the opportunity to see the sunrise, to contemplate images as this one excites us, ahead of us our companions were waiting for us: Richard, Jonathan, and Tomas. I confess that my friends also had doubts that he could arrive, but... I kept silent convinced of the result.
As we were going for a walk to stay in the town of Choroni, there was no hurry, everyone was attentive and adjusted at their pace and speed, we moved forward until we reached "Curucuruma ", we reloaded the thermos of the delicious water of the waterfall and continued up a steep climb a few meters to reach "Curucurumita ", just there we reached Claudia's husband with an exquisite breakfast of empanadas with different fillings and natural juices.
With that energy recharge we continued along the steep road, Jonathan was in charge of giving the indications to Adelso to face the most demanding stretch of this route, we stopped at the famous "Danta" and continued to the "Dantica" which represent the strongest climbs. Just there (Danta) I carelessly left my gloves on the retaining wall, I realized when we had gone a few kilometers, the option to return to look for them I did not even think.
After overcoming the steepest climbs we reached what they call "the first downhill", again we stopped and met a gentleman cyclist, I asked him to be attentive on the wall to recover the gloves. Soon after we were there, Alfredo from the team: "tuquequesbike" caught up with us, he was riding alone and joined our group.
We continued climbing until we reached the "Cumbre de Choroni", we were all happy, Adelso had managed to overcome the most difficult part of the road, and we devoured the remaining snacks, Tomas and Jonathan accompanied us there. From this point, the strong descent begins, and the weather changed drastically, we put on the windbreaker to protect us from the cold, the adrenaline was activated before the descent, the speed, and the sharp curves.
It is difficult not to get excited and let gravity do the work, but prudence calls to descend with caution, we had the foresight to stop every so often to let the brakes cool down, but Adelso's brakes failed and he had the foresight to get off the bike, with the good fortune that Alfredo was carrying tools and spare parts needed to fix the breakdown.
One of Adelso's wishes was to go down to the "Dique" and get under the waterfall, we turned off the main road to take the path that leads to the site, while he went down the stairs, Claudia, Richard, Alfredo and myself descended a little more to find an ancient museum, it was the power plant "Agua Viva" a mysterious, captivating and strangely beautiful place.
Next to it there was a stream with small waterfalls, Claudia and Richard jumped into a shallow well, and Alfredo and I were enraptured with the old pieces and the strangeness of the place. We stayed a while to go in search of our friend Adelso in the "Dique", we went down the long flight of stairs leaving the bicycles aside because it was difficult to climb them again.
We were fascinated by the scenery, so we went up the alley to take the main road again, we still had a few kilometers to go. After a while, we were celebrating having arrived at the entrance to the
Further ahead "Guica" Claudia's husband was waiting for us with hydration and food, but we made it to Playa Grande before quenching our hunger and thirst.
On the way back, the way to the inn we stopped at the town square that is located by the sea, we could already notice the tiredness of our dear friend, so we rested for a while and continued to the place where we would spend the night when we arrived we put the bikes away, we took a shower to meet with an exquisite meal around the pool, while we toasted for the determination of all, especially Adelso.
The next day, after breakfast we went to explore the town, Richard knows it very well, we walked along some trails to find paradisiacal landscapes and beaches, and we climbed the rocks to better appreciate the view, this part of the story, the photos speak for themselves.
