Lo que el Liverpool ha logrado no solo esta temporada sino en los últimos años es memorable. Han jugado 3 finales de la Liga de Campeones en los últimos 5 años, lo que probablemente sea una de las mejores actuaciones de su historia. Esta temporada, fueron el único equipo que jugó el último partido de todas las competiciones con posibilidades de ganarlas. Ganaron las 2 copas nacionales, jugaron su último partido de liga con alguna pequeña posibilidad de terminar como campeones, y en el torneo más importante, la Liga de Campeones, jugaron la final una vez más. Lo que Klopp ha logrado en Liverpool es increíble y demuestra al mundo que este entrenador está entre los mejores del mundo, probablemente el mejor.
El Real Madrid, por otro lado, tuvo algunos problemas para lograr un buen rendimiento después de que CR7 dejara el equipo en 2018. Hay una rivalidad importante entre estos 2 equipos, que se hizo aún más grande después de la final de 2018. Hay una curiosidad porque la última final que perdieron ambos equipos fue contra ellos mismos, y lo mismo se puede decir de los entrenadores, su última final perdida de la Liga de Campeones, fue contra su rival de hoy. Esto cargó el partido con un sentimiento de venganza por ambos lados, lo que hizo que todo fuera aún más intenso.
Esperaba un partido muy parejo y de alto ritmo. They won the 2 national cups, they played their last league match with some small possibility of ending up as champions, and in the most important tournament, the Champions League, they played the final once again. What Klopp has accomplished at Liverpool is incredible and proves to the world this coach is among the best in the world, probably the best.
Real Madrid, on the other hand, had some trouble achieving a good performance after CR7 left the team in 2018. In the next 2 years, they lost in the Round of 16 in the Champions League, and it wasn't until last year that the team finally reached the semifinals once again. Real Madrid had a very good season winning the league with an important difference compared to the second team. In the national cup, they didn't have a good performance because they lost in the quarter-finals. The most epic matches for this team were in the Champions League, achieving epic victories against extremely powerful clubs, such as PSG, Chelsea, and City. They played their fifth final since 2014 which is the second best performance in the history of the competition, only surpassed by the same Real Madrid of the 50s and 60s which played 5 finals in a row, and 6 finals in 11 years.

I was expecting a very even and high-paced match. Liverpool is a team that is used to overwhelming their rivals with their fast moves and high pressure, but I believed Real Madrid was very capable of matching their pace, and later on, especially in the second half, maybe even surpassing them in intensity. These 2 teams are the best in the world, and I was excited and even a bit nervous about the match. 😅
How was the match?
Liverpool dominated the first 20-25 minutes, and they were even capable of overwhelming Real Madrid's defenses. It was all Liverpool and it was clear that if the match didn't change, Madrid had no chance of winning it. However, this type of beginning wasn't entirely surprising because it is typical of Liverpool to do this. Madrid only needed to resist and wait for their chance later on.
During these minutes, Liverpool played beautiful football. The capability they have to create complex attacking combinations using attackers, midfielders, and even their right and left back is amazing to watch. It is fair to say the complexity of their attacks is bigger than what Real Madrid did, but in football what matter is how many goals you score, not how amazing your collective movements and strategies are.
Salah had some dangerous shots but Courtois was unbeatable, he was stopping everything and was becoming a hero for his team.

I thought he was going to outplay Carvajal and the truth was that Carvajal resisted his attacks in an acceptable manner. There were a couple of mistakes when he attempted some passes but nothing too disastrous.
When Real Madrid attacked, almost all passes went to Valverde and most of them were lost. Since Liverpool was applying a very effective high pressure, Real Madrid made long passes but they didn't work the majority of the time.
On the other side of the pitch, Vinicius was unable to get rid of Konate, who is much bigger and could easily stop all aerial passes going to Vinicius. All the danger that Vinicius could create was being neutralized by Konate in the first half.
Eventually, Modric and Kroos started to intelligently slow down the match. It was clear Real Madrid couldn't match Liverpool's high pace, and the solution was to make this match much slower and try to calm things down. This worked wonders because it allowed Real Madrid to gain some ground and begin to even the match somehow. It would have been tragic for Real Madrid if the entire match was like the first 20-25 minutes because Liverpool could have easily scored not one but even 2 goals, luckily for Madrid, Courtois stopped all of them.
Towards the end of the first half, Liverpool seemed to be a bit confused and Real Madrid was even able to score a goal that was disallowed due to an offside. It was a bit crazy because not only the play was very chaotic, but it was also surprising to see a goal coming from Real Madrid when it was Liverpool the team that did almost all of the attacks.
Real Madrid enjoyed a considerable improvement in the second half. Liverpool was no longer able to suffocate them with their high pressure like what happened at the beginning of the first half. It seemed that Madrid disallowed goal at the end of the first half changed something in the psychology of both teams and allowed Real Madrid to gain much more confidence.
Valverde did a good job throughout the match, and history was made thanks to him at the 59-minute mark. He was running on the right side of the pitch which is the zone where he usually plays, and with his typical speed and intelligence, he got close to the area and sent a terrific pass towards Vinicius who was waiting for the ball in the second post. Arnold didn't do a good job covering him and Vinicius was able to score a historic goal with a simple touch. The goalkeeper was already defeated thanks to Valverde's terrific pass.

This was the best performance I have seen from a goalkeeper in a Champions League final. He even received the individual recognition as the man of the match.
As the match was approaching its final minutes, Liverpool's players were showing a lot of signs of frustration. Salah for example had a noticeable look of worry. It must be very frustrating to constantly attack your rival but not score any goal. I believe Liverpool deserved to score at least 1 goal, but that's football. Statistics sometimes don't mean anything.
The ending of the match wasn't very intense, I mean, Liverpool was constantly attacking and sending crosses into the area, but all of those plays were always neutralized one way or another. There was tension, but Liverpool wasn't close to scoring in those final minutes.
Real Madrid, with all its epicness and mysticism, was able to win this final despite the fact their rival created much more attacks. This entire Champions League was magical for Real Madrid. They had heroic and almost impossible comebacks against all of their previous rivals, PSG, Chelsea, and Manchester City, and in the final, they also resisted Liverpool's dominance to ultimately win it thanks to a goal by Madrid's new star, Vinicius.
There are many Real Madrid players who now have 5 Champions League medals, which makes them even more historic than they already were. This was a perfect season for Real Madrid, especially a perfect Champions League.
What's next?
This season has come to an end and now it is fair to say Real Madrid was the best team. I was expecting more goals in the final but I still enjoyed it a lot.
Now, there won't be important football matches in the next couple of months and the summer market will soon begin. This means, it is now time to announce new signings and hopefully, the market will have a few surprises for us the fans.
