Terminó el preolímpico sub-23' de fútbol y, con ello, el sueño venezolano de asistir a la gran fiesta del deporte en el verano de París 2024. Muchos entendidos han escrito sobre lo irreprochable que fue la actuación de los chicos en el torneo; sin embargo, un análisis menos emocional y más objetivo, indicaría los factores claves de la falta de trascendencia que sí lograron Paraguay y Argentina. De esto se trata la presente publicación y le ruego a mi estimado lector, tenga en cuenta que solo es una opinión de quien suscribe.
Una de las cosas aplaudir de los muchachos de la sub-23' criolla, fue la actitud con la que encararon el torneo. En efecto, nunca bajaron los brazos y nos entregaron resultados dramáticos. Pero esa fortaleza mental mostrada en la ronda eliminatoria, estuvo ausente en la etapa del torneo en que importaba más lucirla: el cuadrangular final. De otro modo, no se entendería el derrumbe que tuvieron ante los tres equipos enfrentados.

The U-23 pre-Olympic soccer tournament has come to an end and, with it, the Venezuelan dream of attending the great sports festival in the summer of Paris 2024. Many experts have written about the irreproachable performance of the boys in the tournament; however, a less emotional and more objective analysis would indicate the key factors for the lack of transcendence that Paraguay and Argentina achieved. This is what this publication is about and I ask my dear reader to keep in mind that it is only the opinion of the undersigned.
One of the things to applaud about the U-23 boys was the attitude with which they approached the tournament. Indeed, they never gave up and delivered dramatic results. But that mental fortitude shown in the knockout round was absent in the stage of the tournament when it mattered most: the final quadrangular. Otherwise, it would be hard to understand their collapse against the three teams they faced.
Mi estimado lector pensará: "Pero son muchachos ¿Qué más quieres de ellos?" Bueno, muchos de estos chicos ya juegan en el campeonato local de mayores y han aprendido a manejar la presión de jugar con futbolistas profesionales del patio y extranjeros. De allí la desfachatez y atrevimiento mostradas en el terreno. Pero cuando vas a jugar campeonatos sudamericanos, tienes que tener en cuenta el factor de privilegio hacia los equipos de siempre y el VAR, que no tuvo protagonismo en la ronda preliminar, iba a ser el método para manejar los imponderables.
La CONMEBOL no tiene más control que el que pueda ejercer mediante la tecnología mencionada y ya ven ustedes lo que pasó ante Brasil y ante la Argentina. Digamos que el resultado ante Paraguay fue inapelable, pero a esto me refiero cuando digo que los chicos se derrumbaron. Aunque siempre siguieron empujando, les faltó el control mental suficiente, más allá que el arbitraje haya perjudicado al equipo (cuestión que como escribí, son imponderables que estarán siempre gravitando sobre la cancha cuando eres uno de los "equipos chicos")

Let's say that the result against Paraguay was unappealable, but this is what I mean when I say that the boys collapsed. Although they always kept pushing, they lacked enough mental control, even if the refereeing was against the team (as I wrote, these are imponderables that will always be gravitating on the field when you are one of the "small teams").
Detalles mentales como superar los autogoles o las injusticias arbitrales (sean de VAR o humanas), tienen que tener un departamento de desechos en la mente de cualquier profesional. De otra manera, siempre estarán echando a perder la concentración del equipo. Y un team sin foco no podrá superar el marcador por más que lo quiera, cuando éstos obstáculos mentales están flotando sobre sus cabezas. Hace falta actitud y aptitud hacia este aspecto del juego.
Mientras no se fortalezca la mente, jamás se podrá escalar el olimpo sudamericano. Porque en el aspecto físico y el táctico, pareciera que las brechas se han ido cerrando. Es tan importante, que un equipo dotado de fortaleza mental y poca destreza física, podría siempre ganar aunque el contrario sea un portento de talento. La historia lo ha demostrado. Pero estos chicos son el futuro vinotinto y de seguro seguirán aprendiendo. Sin dominar la mente será difícil porque la fe no es suficiente.

Mental details such as overcoming own goals or refereeing injustices (be they VAR or human), have to have a waste department in the mind of any professional. Otherwise, they will always be spoiling the team's concentration. And a team without focus will not be able to overcome the scoreboard no matter how much they want to, when these mental obstacles are hovering over their heads. It takes attitude and aptitude towards this aspect of the game.
As long as the mind is not strengthened, it will never be possible to climb the South American Olympus. Because in the physical and tactical aspects, it seems that the gaps have been closing. It is so important that a team endowed with mental strength and little physical prowess can always win, even if the opponent is a wonder of talent. History has proven this. But these boys are the future vinotinto and they will surely continue to learn. Without mastering the mind it will be difficult because faith is not enough.
