Yesterday was a getaway day across MLB, but seven games still went down. Over at Chase Field in Phoenix, the Colorado Rockies clashed with the hometown D-backs. We’ll break down Eduardo Rodríguez’s outing in a bit, but first, check out this wild, quirky play. Top of the fifth, one away, runners on the corners for the Rockies with Braxton Fulford at the dish. E-Rod deals, and Fulford drops down a surprise safety squeeze. Rodríguez bounces off the bump and flips the ball to backstop Gabriel Moreno, who nails Ezequiel Tovar at the dish by an eyelash, with Carlos Torres punching him out. See the pattern there? The hurler, the catcher, the baserunner, and the home plate ump were all Venezuelan. This probably happens way more often to the Dominicans since they pack a bigger roster presence than Venezuela, but it’s still a super cool coincidence. So, what went sideways for the Rockies? The bunt execution. The strategy was solid, but the batter failed to push it down the third-base line, an angle that would’ve made the throw home brutal for E-Rod since he’s a southpaw. Last night, he went completely lights out for 7 full frames, tossing a shutout with just 4 hits allowed, one free pass, and 4 punchouts. His season stats? We caught a piece over on MLB Network about how the vibe completely shifts in the Atlanta dugout when Ronald Acuña Jr. is in the lineup. You can check it out in the link provided. But what we really want to highlight are his two RBIs last night, which helped blow open the game in a 9-3 Braves blowout over the Marlins at LoanDepot Park in Miami. A leadoff hitter usually drives in fewer runs since he sets the table, but if the bottom of the order gets on base, he gets his shot to bring guys home. Last night’s ribs must have felt great for the La Sabana native, snapped a long drought since he drove in 9 before landing on the IL. Either way, let’s hope the trend sticks, because Atlanta is packing a dream lineup where everyone from top to bottom has the tools to clear the bases. The bad news? He had to be pulled in the 5th after jamming his left thumb. He claims he'll be good to go today. We’ll see.

They bumped Kwan down the lineup to take some pressure off his shoulders. Meanwhile, Brayan keeps delivering from the nine-hole, putting together a breakout season way above his career metrics. Yesterday, he went a perfect 3-for-3 with a run scored. Two of those knocks were extra-base hits (two-baggers), and the man has already driven in 27 runs—more than half of his career-high (44 in 2025)—and May isn't even over yet. He’s hitting at a blistering .400 clip over his last 7 games and slashing .382 over his last 15. Showing off that kind of elite contact tool has allowed him to cross the dish 24 times, putting him on pace for a career year if he stays off the IL.
