West Palm Beach es una ciudad costera de la Florida norteamericana ubicada en la costa este de la península. Allí, en The Ballpark of The Palm Beaches, se encuentra el complejo donde los Astros de Houston están estirando los músculos de cara a la venidera campaña. También jugarán varios encuentros de la liga de la Naranja, como suele llamarse a los partidos de pretemporada jugados en la Florida. Y en el Minute Maid Park trabajaron para seguir siendo el equipo que era: un auténtico dolor de cabeza para los contrarios. Si no hicieron más fue porque las lesiones se lo impidieron. El equipo bateó colectivamente para AVE de .259 y con ello obtuvieron el 5to. lugar dentro de 30 equipos ofensivos. Nada mal. Y el pitcheo no se quedó atrás. Los lanzadores hicieron de las suyas para terminar con EFE de 3.94, debajo del promedio de la liga y culminaron en el puesto 8vo. de 30 rosters. La verdad no se les puede condenar por nada, ya que lograron el objetivo principal de cualquier temporada: jugar en Octubre.
Sólo dos venezolanos están protegidos en el roster de 40 y ambos están establecidos. Luis García es un un abridor derecho que había comenzado 6 juegos hasta Mayo, con balance de 2 ganados y dos perdidos, EFE de 4.00, 31 guillotinados en 27 innings completos, hasta que se lesionó el brazo de lanzar y tuvo que ir al quirófano para recibir la cirugía Tommy John. Perdió el resto de la temporada y sin nada por demostrar, en Houston esperan su total recuperación en Mayo (Justin Verlander tiene la misma fecha para pasar a engrosar la rotación).
