El súper óvalo de Talladega de 2.5 millas de longitud nunca suele decepcionar, la mayoría de las carreras son con finales emocionantes y con finales cerrado, este año no fue la excepción, ya que la segunda carrera de la ronda de 12 en la pista ya mencionada, tuvo un final bastante cerrado entre Ryan Blaney y Kevin Harvick, con victoria para el piloto de la máquina número 12 del equipo Penske (Ryan Blaney). Con este resultado, Blaney logra su pase a la ronda de 8 de estas eliminatorias de la serie mayor de NASCAR.
Debido a las características de Talladega, ser una pista grande, con curvas amplias y un gran peralte en sus curvas, las competencias en este lugar son en paquete, hay que saber trabajar en el draft, porque estar rondando solo, ocasionará la perdida de posiciones e incluso la vuelta. Al ser la carrera en grupo, pues normalmente no se sacan ventajas, siempre hay pilotos por todos lados, allí es donde radica la importante de observador que se encuentra en la parte más alta de la pista. Sin lugar a dudas Dega es una de las pistas favorita de las fanáticos de la serie de autos stock de los Estados Unidos y el pasado fin de semana quedó desmostado con este magnífico final, donde se dio un incidente detrás de los lideres, pero por suerte la carrera ya estaba en su etapa final.
En los últimos años se han dado finales cerrados, de menos de una décima de diferencia entre el primer y segundo lugar. Pero el final más cerrado en Talladega es del año 2011, en el que ocho pilotos estuvieron peleando por la victoria, Dale Earnhardt JR, Jimmie Johnson, Mark Martin, Jeff Gordon, Kevin Harvick, Clint Bowyer, Greg Biffle y Carl Edwards, pero finalmente se terminó imponiendo el 7 veces campeón de la serie mayor de NASCAR, Johnson contra un Bowyer quien terminó segundo a tan solo dos milésimas. En ese 2011 aun las carreras en Talladega se daba lo que se conocía en ese momento como "Bump Drafting", que consistía en que un piloto iba empujando físicamente a otro piloto, por lo cual alcanzaban más velocidad, pero finalmente NASCAR terminó prohibiendo esto porque le quitaba la esencia a las carrera. En lo personal me encantaba este estilo de carrera y Jonhson ganó en este 2011, gracias al empuje de su compañero de equipo Earnhardt JR. Esta fue la mejor carrera que jamás allá visto. Aric Almirola fue quien se terminó quedando con la pole, al realizar un tiempo de 52.715 segundos en la segunda ronda, porque hay que recordar que la qualy ahora se divide en dos ronda, la primera se dividen dos grupos con la mitad de los inscritos para la carrera, los mejores 5 tiempos de ambos grupos avanzan a la ronda final con tan solo 10 pilotos que se pelean las cinco primeras líneas para el inicio de la competencia. Finalmente Joey Logano completó la primera línea al quedar segundo, seguido por Chase Briscoe, Kyle Larson (Primer contendiente de estos playoffs mejor posicionado), Brad Keselowski (Contendiente de las eliminatorias), Riley Herbst, Austin Cindric, William Byron (Contendiente), Bubba Wallace (Contendiente) y Ryan Blaney (Contendiente).
El primer y segundo segmento de la carrera estaba pautados a 60 vueltas. La etapa uno fue realmente rápida ya que no hubo sino una bandera amarilla por incidente y al ser en la vuelta 61, esta sirvió también para cerrar el segmento. En este primer accidente quedaron involucrado Kyle Busch quien se complica aún más en estas eliminatorias y tan solo con una victoria logrará avanzar a la siguiente ronda de los playoffs, además de Christopher Bell quien es otro de los contendientes. Aunque es importante mencionar que ambos pudieron continuar en la carrera, aunque no con buenos resultados finales debido a daños en sus autos que al final puede jugar en contra. Ryan Blaney fue el ganador del segmento, seguido por William Byron, Kyle Larson, Chase Elliott y Alex Bowman (Top 5).
El segundo segmento no hubo banderas amarillas, todo transcurrió sin contratiempos, todos los pilotos estaban calmados, tratando de hacer la mejor carrera posible.
