The 2021 qualifying games are now over for 2021, the ultimate results will be known next year. I can wager that the USA, Canada and Mexico will go directly to the World Cup and even though I am rooting for Costa Rica to make it to the playoffs, even though Honduras rivalry with Costa Rica goes back a long time, still I think that place will be won by either Panama or Jamaica, These teams except Panama have players in big time European teams which gives them that slight edge that usually ends up being the difference between qualifying and almost qualifying,
The funny thing is the big team, Mexico has been reduced to third place tied with Panama, still in Mexico they should win all their games. The other two teams Canada and the USA have an easy run even though Canada has to play Honduras in Honduras and Honduras is a very difficult team for Canada, That is what we are reduced to, maybe denying a qualification to a deserving team.
We, Honduras have been a disaster, games we should have won lost in the last ten minutes in fact against Costa Rica in the last minute of over time. Now we have people here who still think we have a chance, I have to be real here, we play the USA in USA, I see no way of winning that game, perhaps with luck a draw but that just sends us even deeper down the hole, no we are out and the sooner we accept it the better it is.
The sad part is we do have good players and we have mostly lost due to our 38 year old captain a central defender who is no longer up to it, I think we have lost at least five points because of his lousy defending, I am not trying to diss the man he puts all into it but he is just not up to it any more, with another defender maybe things could have been different.
What I really don't agree with is hiring Bolillo Gomez, an expensive manager, and hiring him when our chances are not even slim seems like a waste of money to me, we should have hired a much cheaper local manager and with him try to finish the qualifying round with some dignity. After that we could hire Bolillo and start a serious process with our sights on the 2026 World Cup were there will only be one spot up for grabs as Canada, USA, and Mexico are qualified as hosts.
The thing that gets me is we are practically out since two games ago so give the new kids a chance nothing to lose doing that we already lost everything. I am not even upset in fact last night I was rooting for Costa Rica to win and I hate them football wise, but at least if they won they still have a modest chance, us with a draw were still out of it.
