En los últimos tiempos lo único que veo por TV es deportes, bueno eso y alguna serie o película en alguna de las plataformas de streaming, principalmente para acompañar a mi esposa y para sacarla también a ella de esa vorágine de noticias políticas y económicas que inundan cada aspecto de nuestras vidas en estos momentos.
El fin de semana deportivo comenzó temprano el jueves con el partido inaugural de la nueva temporada de la NFL, sorpresa grande, perdieron los actuales campeones ante un equipo que hace muchos años viene deambulando por los últimos peldaños de la liga, creo que llevaba cinco temporadas consecutivas sin poder ganar en el primer partido de la temporada y lo hizo ante los actuales campeones y de buena manera, oponiendo gran resistencia en la defensa y aprovechando los errores del rival, para Patrick Mahomes fue su primer derrota en el partido inaugural.
El viernes pude observar por la aplicación de la MLB que el dominicano Noelvi Marte se robó el home para conseguir la cuarta carrera de los Reds, no sirvió de mucho porque de todas maneras fue derrota 9 a 4, no pude ver la jugada, una pena porque jamás vi un robo de home en directo. Siempre sigo a los Reds por la aplicación, sirve cuando no trasmiten el encuentro por TV, cosa que sucede a menudo. Olvidaba mencionar que también vi como Francia le ganó a los All Blacks en el partido inaugural del mundial de rugby, otra sorpresa pese a que sabía que los neozelandes no tienen un equipo tan temible como en otros mundiales.
El sábado mi primera gran decepción del fin de semana, Los Pumas, nuestro seleccionado nacional de rugby que venía con buenos antecedentes y mucha prensa a favor, cayeron estrepitosamente ante Inglaterra cuyos últimos resultados no auguraban un buen desempeño, lo que más me impactó fue el desconcierto y la enorme cantidad de errores del equipo argentino, algo que no es habitual. Veremos si en los próximos encuentros la cosa se revierte, el grupo es accesible, aunque siempre las remontadas son difíciles.
El domingo por supuesto veo RedZone, ese programa espectacular que trasmite las principales jugadas de los encuentros que se están disputando en cada uno de los dos turnos en que se divide la jornada de la NFL, otra decepción me tomó por sorpresa, no esperaba la dura derrota de los Bengals.

Sin embargo, luego de parar y remontar algunos puestos desde la ubicación 16, otra bandera y el ingreso de varios pilotos para repostar y cambiar neumáticos se ubicaba en cuarto lugar, su compañero Callum Ilott venía justo detrás en el relanzamiento; yo temía lo que finalmente ocurrió, ya en un relanzamiento anterior había visto a Ilott muy agresivo pasando autos y tomando riesgos quizás innecesarios, en ese momento pensé que quizás el otro piloto del Juncos Racing Team respetaría al argentino ya que este se jugaba algo importante, ser el mejor rookie de la temporada lo que le valdría un importante premio que le permitiría aportar más para su continuidad, pero nada de eso ocurrió, Ilott fue tan vehemente como en relanzamientos anteriores y se jugó por el lado externo en una de las difíciles curvas del trazado, el toque fue inevitable y el nuestro quedó con la trompa suelta del lado derecho, lo que le complicó totalmente la carrera, fue perdiendo rendimiento y solo pudo ver como muchos lo pasaban para finalizar 14 y perder todo lo bueno que había conseguido durante gran parte de la excitante carrera que finalmente ganó Dixon, un extraordinario piloto que siempre demuestra lo que vale más allá del calendario.
Volví a la NFL y pude ver algunas buenas jugadas, por la noche el Sunday Night Football, solo vi unos minutos, los Gigantes de Nueva York no iban a ser una tarea difícil para los Cowboys, los de la estrella solitaria, no me equivoqué y gané un par de horas de sueño, agotado por tanto deporte.
