En la sexta edición del torneo de tenis en la capital balcánica, se dio uno de los duelos más esperados de la justa, entre el número 1 del mundo Novak Djokovic y el ruso Andrey Rublev, el ATP Serbia Openen, torneo categoria 250; un encuentro que tuvo matices de cambio generacional, realizado en las instalaciones del Novak Tennis Center, el recinto que hace honor al mejor tenista de ese país y considerado por muchos, el mejor de la historia; pero que ha visto en peligro su prolongado reinado, motivado a temas de política sanitaria por el Covid-19.

In the sixth edition of the tennis tournament in the Balkan capital, one of the most awaited duels of the tournament took place, between the world number one Novak Djokovic and the Russian Andrey Rublev, the ATP Serbia Openen, a 250 category tournament; A match that had nuances of generational change, held at the facilities of the Novak Tennis Center, the venue that honors the best tennis player of that country and considered by many, the best in history; but that has seen in danger its long reign, motivated by health policy issues by the Covid-19.
Este evento que comparte fecha con el ATP 500 de Barcelona, también se juega también en pista sobre polvo de ladrillo y esta edición contó con la presencia de jóvenes atletas emergentes, a quienes el mismísimo Nole invitó, como el caso del chileno Alejandro Tabilo, entre otros. No obstante en la gran final tuvimos al primer y segundo preclasificados, por lo que se deduce que cumplieron su cometido, aunque del lado de Djokovic, tuvo una dura competencia en las fases preliminares.

El siguiente reto para Novak,fue en cuartos de final ante su otro compatriota y amigo, el talentoso joven Miomir Kecmanovic, allí el más grande tenista de Serbia echó mano de su basta experiencia, para remontar, igualar y por último ganar el encuentro. Fue una especie de regreso a su nivel, o al menos parte de éste. Aquel fue el escollo más difícil, dado el fácil partido ante Karen Kachanov; entonces los fanáticos soñamos con el regreso del gran Novak, ese jugador dominante que todos conocemos.
The next challenge for Novak was in the quarterfinals against his other compatriot and friend, the talented young Miomir Kecmanovic, where Serbia's greatest tennis player drew on his vast experience to come from behind, equalize and finally win the match. Pero en la final, fue Andrey Rublev quien sacó a relucir su potente juego y sus mejores tiros paralelos, con los que dominó a plenitud en la primera manga. Vi a Djoko errar muchos tiros que normalmente acierta y su servicio estaba saliendo muy suave; quiz´zas algo no andaba bien en su físico. Andrey quebró fácil al quinto game y se mantuvo al acecho en la red. El serbio intentó su juego a los lados, pero Rublev estaba "on fire", corriendo y deslizándose por toda la pista. Otro quiebre en el séptimo dejaba la mesa servida para el 6 - 2.
But in the final, it was Andrey Rublev who brought out his powerful game and his best parallel shots, with which he dominated to the full in the first set. I saw Djoko miss a lot of shots he normally hits and his serve was going very soft; maybe something was wrong with his physique. Andrey broke easily in the fifth game and kept lurking at the net. The Serb tried his game sideways, but Rublev was on fire, running and sliding all over the court. Another break in the seventh set the table for 6 - 2.
Segunda vuelta y el guerrero serbio demuestra su gallardía, aumentando su velocidad de ataque y quebrando el segundo game, ante la molestia de su rival que tira su raqueta contra el suelo; esta actitud de Andrey me recordó su mal momento en Rotterdam, cuando se autoflageló en su mano, producto de la frustración.
Second round and the Serbian warrior shows his gallantry, increasing his attacking speed and breaking the second game, before the annoyance of his rival who throws his racket on the ground; this attitude of Andrey reminded me of his bad moment in Rotterdam, when he self-flagellated his hand, product of frustration.
Ante la muestra de flaqueza por presión de Rublev, Novak se creció y alzó un poco el vuelo, pero no terminaba de convencer con su tenis algo previsible. No obstante pudo llegar al cierre del ser y su templanza atlética le permitió llegar hasta el tie break. Allí volvió a dar destellos de su nivel y se quedó con el 7 - 6 (4).
In the face of Rublev's pressure, Novak grew and raised his game a bit, but he was not convincing with his somewhat predictable tennis. However, he was able to reach the end of the set and his athletic temperance allowed him to reach the tie break. There he again showed flashes of his level and took the 7 - 6 (4).
El tercer set fue el derrumbe físico para Nole, ya que al parecer dejó su tanque vacío con el esfuerzo del desempate anterior. Algo que considero clave, fue la capacidad de Rublev (ahora sí), de creer más en sí mismo y en su gran potencial. Andrey no se puede permitir desmoronarse con las primeras dificultades, no esta vez.
The third set was the physical collapse for Nole, as he apparently left his tank empty with the effort of the previous tiebreaker. Something that I consider key, was the ability of Rublev (now yes), to believe more in himself and in his great potential. Andrey cannot afford to crumble at the first difficulties and he did so.
El ruso fue más allá de sus límites y nos relagó un 6 - 0 enorme, lo que se conoce en el argot tenístico como rosco. Hacía mucho tiempo que Novak no perdía tan tajantemente, aunque estoy consciente que estaba mermado por un problema de salud, que él mismo admitiría al final. Lo grande de Novak son sus palabras de felicitación para Andrey, invitándole a defender su trofeo el año entrante.
