Cuando terminé de ver la retransmisión del épico partido entre Daniil Medvedev y Félix Auger - Aliassime, tuve una interrogante ¿Qué debes hacer para ganarle a esta versión de Meddy? Porque en verdad el canadiense ha hecho todo, o casi todo, para ganar; sin embargo ha vuelto a quedarse en el camino, en una competición que pintaba muy bien para él. Ha recorrido una ruta complicada que inició contra el joven finlandés Emil Ruusuvuori, extendiéndose a 5 sets para poder avanzar; luego trabajaría muy bien para superar al español Davidovich por 3 – 1, igual marcador con el experimentado Marin Cilic, luego del 3 – 0 ante Dan Evans.

When I finished watching the broadcast of the epic match between Daniil Medvedev and Felix Auger - Aliassime, I had a question: What do you have to do to beat this version of Meddy? Because in truth the Canadian has done everything, or almost everything, to win; however he has fallen by the wayside again, in a competition that looked very good for him. He has gone through a complicated route that began against the young Finnish Emil Ruusuvuori, extending to 5 sets to advance; then he would work very well to overcome the Spanish Davidovich by 3 - 1, the same score with the experienced Marin Cilic, after the 3 - 0 against Dan Evans.

No obstante ha estado muy cerca de lograr avanzar, dado que ha hecho gala de un ritmo tremendo y una actitud (en principio) demoledora. Ese es un aspecto destacable, porque se ha notado el cambio de cómo asume el reto; ha sabido atacar y defenderse en un primer set reñido, que tuvo que definirse en el desempate y que aguantó las intenciones de remonte por parte del ruso.

In my post two days ago, I commented on Felix's opportunity to redeem that 4 - 6 and 0 - 6 loss in the semifinals of the APT Cup; unfortunately for the Montreal-born Felix, that did not happen. Nevertheless, he has been very close to advancing, since he has shown a tremendous pace and a (in principle) demolishing attitude. That is a remarkable aspect, because the change in his approach to the challenge has been noticeable; he has been able to attack and defend himself in a close first set, which had to be defined in the tiebreaker and withstood the Russian's comeback attempts.

La tercera vuelta nos daba indicios de una gran sorpresa, las gradas apoyaban claramente al canadiense (Medvedev sabe cómo evitar el aprecio de la fanaticada jajaja), aunque Félix no concretaba del todo su juego corto, esencial para hacerle daño al ruso. Por su parte Daniil ajustó su servicio de efecto abierto, con el que sacó de la cancha a su rival (esa es un arma que Medvedev utiliza cuando está en aprietos y necesita ganar o ganar). Sin embargo al jugarse el tie break, un cúmulo de tiros errados por parte de Auger – Aliassime, le dieron la ventaja al ruso, una que no dejaría escapar.

El canadiense que venía desbordando su juego rápido, se apresuró un poco y le costó caro, porque si le das espacio a un monstruo como Medvedev, pagarás el precio. Vi a Daniil festejar con efusividad y alivio a la vez; y el motivo parecía por haber encontrado esa pequeña grieta en el juego de su rival, para iniciar su remontada, ese tie break lo marcó en 7 – 6 (2) una ventaja tajante que le daba el impulso necesario para arrancar la cuarta manga. Esta fue tan emocionante como las anteriores y estuvo matizada por el esfuerzo sostenido de Meddy por mantenerse en competencia.

The third round gave us signs of a big surprise, the stands clearly supported the Canadian (Medvedev knows how to avoid the appreciation of the fans hahaha), although Felix did not fully materialize his short game, essential to hurt the Russian. On the other hand, Daniil adjusted his open spin serve, with which he took his opponent out of the court (that is a weapon that Medvedev uses when he is in trouble and needs to win or win). However, when the tie break was played, a series of missed shots by Auger - Aliassime, gave the advantage to the Russian, one that he would not let escape.

The Canadian, who had been overflowing his fast game, rushed a little and it cost him dearly, because if you give space to a monster like Medvedev, you will pay the price. Y ante las muestras de frustración de Auger, se contrastaban las de jerarquía por parte de Meddy, el partido parecía encaminado y así fue.

The climax of the match came in the tenth game, where Daniil was about to give up the break, incurring a double fault and provoking a "Match Point" for the Canadian, who resorted to the power of his service solving with a very timely ace and then with unstoppable serves. Medvedev played this instance in "Android" mode and with cold blood held and then made Felix incur in the faults that cost him the break at a peak moment. Although Felix kept trying and was on the verge of breaking in the eighth game, Daniil kept the strength of his first serve and blocking the exits to the Canadian; I consider admirable the battle raised by the Canadian, who even had a break ball, trying what was within his reach, but lacking a longed winning shot. Medvedev has shown a champion's claw, fighting with vehemence every ball in the farthest corners of the court and his effort has crowned the result that has fought the hardest in this great tournament. The clock read 4 hours and 42 minutes at the end of the tennis battle, which saw the Russian advance once again.

Félix Auger – Aliassime ha perdido con las botas puestas y se ha ganado el respeto de todos; debemos reconocer que su rival ha sido superior. No obstante Daniil ha disimulado su (casi derrota) con ese mensaje escrito en la cámara (no estoy cansado). Es extraño ver que el joven canadiense no hay ganado un torneo individual, porque su talento va en crecimiento, parece un jugador mucho mayor por su actitud centrada y su buen espíritu deportivo. El ruso aún tiene una cita pendiente con el griego Tsitsipás si quiere pasar a la final y ahora mismo es Stéfanos el de ranking más cercano a Medvedev. ¿Podrá detener el paso redoblado de Daniil? Felix Auger - Aliassime has lost with his boots on and has earned the respect of all; we must recognize that his rival has been superior. Nevertheless Daniil has disguised his (almost defeat) with that message written on the camera (I'm not tired). It is strange to see that the young Canadian has not won an individual tournament, because his talent is growing, he looks like a much older player because of his focused attitude and good sportsmanship. The Russian still has a pending appointment with the Greek Tsitsipas if he wants to pass to the final and right now is Stefanos the closest ranking to Medvedev. Will he be able to stop Daniil's doubled pace? Tomorrow we will see.
