El encuentro anoche entre Oklahoma City Thunder y Los Angeles Lakers prometía, en tanto se enfrentaban dos candidatos fuertes al MVP: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, el Chamberlain contemporáneo, recargado, contra un Luka Dončić que —junto al eterno Lebron— casi nunca decepciona. El partido arrancó dulce para los de casa, mientras que los Lakers comenzaron exageradamente erráticos, faltos de ritmo y concentración incluso en los casos de Dončić y James. Last night’s matchup between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Los Angeles Lakers carried real intrigue, featuring two strong MVP contenders: SGA in full modern-day Chamberlain mode, reloaded, against a Luka Dončić who—alongside the ever-reliable LeBron James—rarely disappoints. The game opened sweetly for the home side, while the Lakers struggled with a very low field-goal percentage, lacking rhythm and focus even from Dončić and LeBron. Oklahoma unleashed a relentless barrage in the first quarter, knocking down seven of its first nine three-point attempts.

El segundo cuarto arrancó con el mismo desconcierto en el bando angelino, fallando sus primeros tiros de campo. Lo mejor de su parte fue un bloqueo de Lebron, quien, casi de inmediato, perdió un balón —este tema fue una pesadilla permanente toda la noche para ellos— y luego falló desde la línea de tiros libres. Mientras tanto, a Oklahoma todo le salía a la perfección, logrando encestes de todos los colores, capturando muchos rebotes ofensivos, rentabilizando la segunda jugada y con una defensa excelente. SGA siquiera tuvo que hacer las veces de protagonista dado que otros actores como Williams asumieron toda la tarea en esos primeros compases del partido.

The second quarter began with the same confusion on the Los Angeles side, missing their opening shots; their brightest moment was a LeBron block, though he also committed an uncharacteristic turnover and missed from the free-throw line. Meanwhile, everything clicked for Oklahoma, scoring in every conceivable way, crashing the offensive glass, and defending at a high level. The local hero SGA didn’t even need to dominate early, as supporting actors like Williams carried the load in the opening stretches. Only toward the end of the first half did the Lakers string together a couple of consecutive made field goals, managing to somewhat dress up the scoreboard by halftime—but the Thunder never eased off. In fact, SGA accelerated, closing the half with 21 points and extending his remarkable streak to 137 consecutive games scoring at least twenty. Insane.

En el baloncesto, en un abrir y cerrar de ojos ocurre una reacción, pero no era ese tipo de noche para Los Angeles, que además tuvieron que soportar el golpe emocional de ver salir antes de tiempo a Dončić, quien nunca se sintió cómodo en la cancha. Absolutamente nada les salió bien a los Lakers, fallando compulsivamente ante un Thunder en modo de gracia. Oklahoma prácticamente dobló en puntos a la visita en el tercer cuarto, lanzando —en total a esa altura del partido— para poco más del 50% en sus intentos largos.
El encuentro en el Paycom Center terminó con una pizarra que reflejó fielmente lo que sucedió en la cancha: una lluvia incesante de truenos bastante irrespetuosa para los Lakers. Basketball can flip in the blink of an eye, but this was not that kind of night for Los Angeles, who also had to absorb the emotional blow of seeing Dončić exit early, never having found his rhythm. Nothing worked for the Lakers, who kept misfiring from the field against a Thunder team playing in a state of grace. Oklahoma nearly doubled the visitors’ scoring in the third quarter and, by that point, was shooting just over 50% from beyond the arc. The game at Paycom Center ended with a scoreboard that faithfully reflected the action on the court: a relentless storm of thunder, rather disrespectful to the Lakers. Oklahoma City now stands at a stellar 61–16, while Los Angeles sits third in the Western Conference at 50–27; both are firmly positioned heading into the postseason as division leaders—though that last detail, under the current format, is little more than symbolic.
