Uno de los momentos deportivos y a la vez favorito de la historia del deporte para mí, se traslada hace varios años atrás, en la Copa América 2011 celebrada en Argentina, donde la Vinotinto dirigida por Cesar Farías, consiguió su mejor participación a nivel de historia en esta competición, logrando un 4to lugar que nos dio muchas alegrías y emociones a todo un país. Venezuela llegaba a esta edición con ganas de demostrar que el futbol venezolano había crecido y podía dar pelear de tú a tú a cualquier selección de Sudamérica, ya que por historia y estadísticas éramos la selección más débil de la zona, catalogada “cenicienta”.

El futbol venezolano venia en total crecimiento, su plantilla contaba con jugadores en las mejores ligas del mundo, algo que no se veía en años anteriores, siendo su principal figura Juan Arango, que jugaba en la elite del futbol europeo, a mi parecer el mejor jugador de la historia de la Vinotinto hasta el momento. También resaltar que la anterior edición de la Copa América para ese entonces, disputada en el año 2007 se había organizado en Venezuela, esto ayudo mucho al crecimiento del futbol venezolano, en cuanto a la infraestructura y la bonita experiencia de organizar un torneo de tal magnitud, siendo la primera vez que se hacía algo así en nuestro país, sin duda que Venezuela era otra a partir de ese momento, donde hizo su mejor presentación, pasando de la primera ronda y siendo eliminada en los cuartos de final ante la selección de Uruguay, aunque se tenía la esperanza de llegar un poco más lejos, todos quedamos conformes con esta selección que dio lo mejor y defendió la camiseta con mucha entrega, en esa Copa América del año 2007.

Esta edición de la Copa América Argentina 2011, estuvo conformada por tres grupos de cuatro selecciones, con dos invitados especiales que eran Japón y México. Venezuela se encontraba en el grupo B, junto a Brasil, Ecuador y Paraguay. Tenía un cronograma bastante complicado, donde le tocaba debutar contra la siempre favorita selección de Brasil, los de Cesar Farías llegaban confiados en hacer un buen papel en el torneo.

En la imagen podemos ver un gol evitado por el defensor Oswaldo Vizcarrondo sacando el balón de manera sorprendente con su hombro tras una barrida, donde el Brasilero Robinho había pateado y vencido al arquero Reny Vega.

El 09 de julio Venezuela enfrentaba a su similar de Ecuador, en el Estadio Padre Ernesto Martearena, gracias al empate ante Brasil, llegaba con un punto en el bolsillo y con la oportunidad de clasificar a la siguiente fase si lograba sumar los tres puntos en este cotejo, desde el momento que se supo cuáles eran los rivales de nuestra selección en esta Copa América, en los papeles este era el encuentro donde no podíamos fallar y lograr la victoria para seguir con vida en el torneo, y los muchachos no nos dejaron mal, fueron mejores en los 90 minutos, y dieron el campanazo paralizando a todo un país, cuando en el segundo tiempo, al minuto 61 de juego Cesar “El Maestrico” González metió un zapatazo a larga distancia dejando sin oportunidad al arquero rival, para de esta manera vencer a Ecuador un gol por cero y con eso, lograr los tres puntos y sellar el histórico pase a los cuartos de final.

El 13 de julio la Vinotinto se enfrentaba a su similar de Paraguay, en el mismo campo donde jugo el encuentro anterior, el Estadio Padre Ernesto Martearena, Venezuela llegaba clasificada con cuatro puntos, pero con ganas de seguir demostrando que estaba para grandes cosas, este la verdad fue un juego fuera de serie, desde mi perspectiva uno de los más emocionantes y si digo que fue el más atractivo de la copa, a pesar de que fue en la primera ronda, créanme que no exagero, en lo personal este fue un encuentro que debido a lo acontecido, disfrute mucho y quedo grabado en mi memoria por amor a mi país y a esta selección, la Vinotinto comenzó ganando desde el minuto cuatro tras un gol de su delantero José Salomón Rondón, pese a su buen juego, los paraguayos pudieron responder para empatar y darle vuelta al encuentro, aprovechando la pelota parada, siendo esta su mayor virtud, el encuentro llego a estar con marcador de 1-3 a favor de los guaraní a falta de 5 minutos para culminar el partido, ¿pero qué paso? quiero que ustedes mismo vean a través del siguiente video lo que paso en el tramo final de este cotejo.

Para sorpresa de todos, culmina el juego con marcador de 3-3 la Vinotinto empato el juego en el último minuto, dio muestras de superación, entrega y sobre todo de buen futbol a todo el continente y el mundo, algo inimaginable, un final histórico que permitió la clasificación de manera invicta para la segunda fase y, sobre todo, marcó un antes y un después en la historia del futbol venezolano, demostrando con hechos el crecimiento de nuestro futbol y dejando atrás el papel de cenicienta, del cual siempre nos catalogaban los seguidores de este gran deporte, fue una noche épica, tuve el privilegio de ver el juego en vivo desde casa con mi familia, y la verdad lo recuerdo como si fuera ayer, ese juego paralizo a todo un país, en especial esos últimos minutos, que generaron buenas sensaciones para nosotros los venezolanos, así como también para las otras selecciones, que desde ese momento nos veían con otros ojos y se dieron cuenta que Venezuela venía con todo para la siguiente ronda del torneo. Nos esperaban unos cuartos de final de Copa América muy interesantes, contra un rival duro y en los papeles superior a nosotros, ¿quién era?
