En el Estadio Metropolitano y por la trigésima jornada de La Liga, se llevó a cabo el primer round entre el Atlético de Madrid y el FC Barcelona. Recordemos que estos clubes, en el transcurso de dos semanas, tienen agendados tres enfrentamientos, siendo el primero ocurrido el día de ayer y los dos próximos por los cuartos de final de la UEFA Champions League; posiblemente, el primero de estos tres enfrentamientos se puede considerar el menos relevante por la distancia en la clasificatoria del torneo español, pero para el Barça sí que era importante porque una victoria significaría extender los puntos de ventaja contra su más cercano perseguidor y justamente esa relevancia del encuentro hizo que el Cholo Simeone pensara en dar preferencia a un torneo sobre el otro.

At the Estadio Metropolitano, on Matchday 30 of La Liga, the first leg between Atlético Madrid and FC Barcelona took place. Después de la disputa de la doble jornada de encuentros de selecciones, tanto Atleti como Barça vieron que sus jugadores llegaron con un notorio cansancio y peor aún con lesiones que alejan a sus mejores jugadores de disputar encuentros importantes; justamente esa situación impulsó a los entrenadores a pensar la manera en como tomar ventaja no solamente del inmediato encuentro por La Liga, sino en el futuro doble enfrentamiento por la segunda fase de la Champions, en ese casoSimeone viendo que su posibilidad de llegar al liderato en La Liga es imposible, decidió dar descanso a varios de sus jugadores titulares y de igual manera formar un equipo que compitiera contra un gran rival que después de observar como horas antes de la disputa de este encuentro supo del resultado adverso de su clásico rival quienes cayeron derrotados en su visita a Mallorca y eso abrió la oportunidad para hacer crecer la distancia entre ambos y como era de esperar y viendo el completo panorama para ambos clubes, fue fácil para los entrenadores del Barça y Atleti decidir que plan realizar para sacar provecho del primer encuentro de los tres entre ellos.

Preferencias, repito nuevamente esa palabra porque no hay duda de que el Atleti está plenamente enfocado en superar al Barça en el máximo torneo de clubes de Europa y, teniendo la cercana experiencia de lo ocurrido en la semifinal de Copa del Rey entre ambos, creo que eso llena de confianza a los colchoneros para enfrentar esa nueva eliminatoria, pero antes deberían disputar el encuentro por La Liga y eso fue lo que motivó a Simeone y su demás cuerpo tecnico a da descanso a varios titulares; en mi opinión ese fue tan solo una parte del plan, ya que el otro era de idear un equipo que fuera compacto, combativo y muy comprometido para desgastar a un rival que al estar en la lucha plena por el liderato de La Liga, se le hizo imposible el rotar y más cuando el Barça presenta una plantilla corta con jugadores lesionados y otros en plena recuperación, en ese ámbito, estoy convencido que el Atleti y Simeone cumplieron de manera perfecta su misión, ya que los pocos habituales hicieron un correcto trabajo llevando al límite a los cansados jugadores del Barça.

Por parte del equipo dirigido por Flick, no hay ni una sola queja del gran desempeño demostrado, muchos de los jugadores en el campo de juego estuvieron convencidos en que no podían dejar de escapar la oportunidad brindada en extender la distancia entre ellos y el Real Madrid y así salieron convencidos en obtener la victoria contra un gran rival; el Barça al perder a una pieza fundamental como es Raphinha por más de un mes, llevo al DT alemán a nuevamente usar a la pareja de volantes, Fermín y Olmo junto en esta oportunidad a Pedri y Eric García, ese cuadro o mejor dicho rombo en el medio campo hizo que los canteranos culés se rotarán la posición de falso 9 en dónde Fermín tuvo más oportunidades de gol y Olmo fue enganche y a quien debo señalar que tuvo un mejor desempeño, pero lamentablemente el desgaste fisico se hizo evidente y Flick dependió de Ferrán y Lewandoski, este último tuvo la suerte de su lado, ya que en los pocos minutos de juego, anotó el muy importante gol de la victoria y el que sitúa a su club en lo más alto de la tabla de posiciones, ahora con una ventaja de 7 puntos contra los merengues.

That formation—or rather, that diamond in midfield—allowed the Barça youth products to rotate in the false-9 position, where Fermín had more scoring opportunities and Olmo played as the playmaker; I must note that Olmo had the better performance, but unfortunately, physical fatigue became evident, and Flick relied on Ferrán and Lewandowski. No tengo ninguna duda que ambos equipos estuvieron satisfechos en lo ocurrido en este primer round; el Barça obtuvo una necesaria y gran victoria que lo aleja en el liderato, pero sin importar el resultado de otros rivales, no había duda que el objetivo (como simepre) es el de obtener los tres puntos, ahora con respecto al Atleti, el dar descanso a jugadores de ataque y esperando que los defensores tengan el descanso necesario para enfrentar la doble jornada contra el Barça, esa era una de las prioridades y eso Simeone lo pudo conseguir y no solo eso, sino demostrar que los pocos habituales pueden hacer el trabajo en mantener un bloque compacto, defensivo lo cual sera el plan a realizar en muchos momentos en la proxima eliminatoria que deberán enfrentar; como pueden observar este primer round aunque el ganador del encuentro fue el FC Barcelona, creo que funcionó muy bien como un preview, una prueba de lo que puede suceder en las próximas dos semanas en la disputa de los cuartos de final de la Champions League y espero que en esa ocasión se cuente con mejores árbitros en el campo para no alimentar la polémica y si generar un juego justo.

I have no doubt that both teams were satisfied with how this first round went; Barça secured a much-needed and impressive victory that extends their lead at the top of the table, but regardless of other rivals’ results, there was no doubt that the goal (as always) was to get the three points. As for Atleti, the aim was to rest the attacking players and ensure the defenders had the necessary rest to face the doubleheader against Barça; that was one of the priorities, and Simeone was able to achieve it—and not only that, but also to demonstrate that the few regulars can do the job of maintaining a compact, defensive unit, which will be the plan to follow in many moments of the upcoming knockout round they must face; As you can see, although FC Barcelona won this first leg, I think it served as a very good preview, a taste of what might happen over the next two weeks in the Champions League quarterfinals.
