Havana is hosting a great sporting event these days at the Pabexpo Fairgrounds, in the Playa municipality. I had the opportunity to attend for work and although I was not there for long, I captured some images that I share with great pleasure.
This Grand Prix is a qualifier for the upcoming Olympics and athletes from 40 countries are here in Cuba, competing for those positions.
It is the first time that a weightlifting event qualifying for the Olympic Games is held here, so we feel very honored and excited. I myself felt great excitement when I entered the competition hall and saw all those flags there and the hustle and bustle of judges, the accredited press, and the weightlifters themselves, some of whom looked exhausted by the effort in the competition, which is very rigorous.
Yesterday, some of the women showed their skills. Of the 272 participants, 133 are women, according to the local press.
Cuba has won some medals in the Olympic Games. I was able to learn that from 1980 to 2020 it accumulated two silver medals and five bronze medals.
My colleague says that in recent times we have not had a great performance in international arenas, in fact, the results expected in the Central American and Caribbean Games of San Salvador 2023 are not very encouraging. But who knows, we may be surprised by our boys and girls.
La Habana acoge un gran evento deportivo por estos días en el Recinto Ferial de Pabexpo, en el municipio Playa. Tuve la oportunidad de asistir por trabajo y aunque no estuve mucho tiempo allí, capté algunas imágenes que les comparto con mucho placer.
Este Grand Prix es clasificatorio para las Olimpiadas venideras y están aquí en Cuba, disputando esos puestos, atletas de 40 países.
Es la primera vez que se realiza aquí un evento de levantamiento de pesas clasificatorio para los Juegos Olímpicos, por lo que nos sentimos muy honrados y entusiasmados. Yo misma sentí gran emoción al entrar a la sala de competencias y ver todas aquellas banderas allí y el ajetreo de jueces, la prensa acreditada, y las propias pesistas, algunas de las cuales se les veía agotadas por el esfuerzo en la competición que es muy rigurosa.
Ayer mostraron sus destrezas algunas féminas. Figúrense que de los 272 participantes, 133 son mujeres, según destaca la prensa local.
Cuba ha obtenido algunas preseas en Juegos Olímpicos. Pude conocer que desde 1980 hasta 2020 acumuló dos de plata y cinco de bronce.
Mi colega dice que en los últimos tiempos no hemos tenido una gran actuación en arenas internacionales, de hecho, los resultados que se esperan en los Juegos Centroamericanos y del Caribe de San Salvador 2023 no son muy alentadores. Pero, ¿quién sabe?, puede que nos sorprendan nuestros muchachos y muchachas.
