Después de un tiempo vuelvo a compartir una nueva aventura con mi grupo de ciclismo. En esta oportunidad nos fuimos a Caracas y aunque estuve como espectadora lo disfruté como si hubiera pedaleado toda la ruta.
After a while, I'm back to share a new adventure with my cycling team. This time in Caracas and, although I was there as a spectator, I enjoyed it as if I had ridden the whole route.
Como es costumbre para este tipo de planes, me levanté a las 4:00 de la mañana, con la intención de estar lista lo más temprano posible, ya que Claudia y Omaris me buscarían antes de las 6 a.m. Nos encontramos con el resto del grupo en la autopista e hicimos una breve parada para atender un par de asuntos importantes: tomar café y verificar que las bicicletas estuvieran bien ajustadas —sí, en ese orden—.
As usual for this kind of trips, I got up at 4:00 a.m., with the intention of being ready as early as possible, since Claudia and Omaris would pick me up before 6:00 a.m. We met the rest of the group on the highway and made a brief stop to take care of a couple of important matters: coffee and checking that the bikes were properly adjusted —yes, in that order—.
Tuvimos que hacer una segunda parada apenas entramos a Caracas. Esta vez nos percatamos de que se había encendido una luz de advertencia el tablero del carro de Claudia, afortunadamente nuestro compañero Johann es especialista en mecánica automotriz y después de chequearlo nos tranquilizó con sus recomendaciones; antes de regresar a Maracay lo solucionaríamos.
As soon as we entered Caracas we had to make a second stop. This time we noticed that Claudia's car had a warning light on the dashboard, fortunately our friend Johann is a specialist in automotive mechanics and after checking it he reassured us with his recommendations, before returning to Maracay we would fix it.
Nos ubicamos en Las Mercedes, estacionamos los carros y arrancamos. Mi rol en esta oportunidad era hacer de escolta, aunque al principio me perdí porque no conozco mucho esta ciudad, rápidamente me ubiqué y pude encontrar a mi grupo.
We got to Las Mercedes, parked the cars and set off. My role in this opportunity was to act as an escort, although at first I got lost because I don't know this city that much, I quickly located myself and was able to find my group.
El domingo 25 de febrero se celebrará la 10ª edición del Gatorade Bici Rock y varios integrantes del grupo se han animado a participar, es por esto que se organizó todo para ir una semana antes a hacer el recorrido.
On Sunday, February 25th, the 10th edition of the Gatorade Bici Rock will be held and some members of the group have been encouraged to participate, which is why everything was organized to go a week before to make the tour.
Ya había escuchado que los ascensos eran fuertes, aparentemente interminables y después de unos pocos kilómetros pude comprobarlo. Incluso manejando notaba lo forzoso que era para el carro, ya pueden imaginar cuánta fuerza se requiere haciéndolo a pedal. Cada uno dio lo mejor de sí mismo y lo más importante: todos disfrutamos del recorrido.
I had heard that there were steep, seemingly endless climbs and after a few kilometers I could prove it. Even driving I could feel how hard it was for the car, you can imagine how much strength is required to do it by pedaling. Everyone gave their best and most importantly we all enjoyed the ride.
Mientras avanzaba en el carro a la menor velocidad posible trataba de recolectar suficiente material audiovisual para escribir este post. Al principio fue un poco engorroso porque, por supuesto, debía detenerme para grabar bien, pero más adelante conté con la ayuda de Omaris lo cual facilitó mucho el trabajo, ya que pude bajarme del carro tranquilamente para grabar y nos turnamos para tomar algunas fotos.
As I was driving along at the slowest possible speed, I was trying to collect enough audiovisual material to write this post. At first it was a bit tricky because, of course, I had to stop to record well, but later on I had the help of Omaris which made the job much easier, since I could get out of the car quietly to record and we took turns to take some pictures.
Luego de varios kilómetros más de paisajes hermosos, ascensos extenuantes y mucho calor todos llegamos a la meta: el colegio Claret, en El Hatillo. Una vez allí, se sentaron a descansar y sacamos del carro todo lo que se había llevado para compartir: arepas, quesos, catalinas y frutos secos.
After several more kilometers of beautiful landscapes, strenuous climbs and a lot of heat, we all arrived at the finish line: the Claret School, in El Hatillo. Once there, they sat down to rest and we took out of the car everything that had been taken to share: arepas, cheeses, catalinas and nuts.
En este grupo puede faltar lo que sea, menos la comida, la bebida y el disfrute. Bajo esta premisa, después de conversar un rato, nos fuimos todos a almorzar. Llegamos a un lugar acogedor llamado La Loma, donde disfrutamos de una vista espectacular y una comida deliciosa.
In this group, anything can be missing, except food, drink and enjoyment. Under this premise, after chatting for a while, we all went to lunch. We arrived at a cozy place called La Loma, where we enjoyed a spectacular view and delicious food.
Me alegra que el día haya culminado satisfactoriamente y que los contratiempos no hayan pasado a mayores.
Admiración es una de las palabras que mejor describen cómo me sentí, viendo como todos se esforzaron. Considero que lo realmente importante es tener la valentía de asumir los retos y que, sin importar cuál sea el resultado, el verdadero fracaso es no atreverse a intentarlo.
I'm glad that the day was successful and that the mishaps didn't escalate into major problems. Admiration is one of the words that best describes how I felt, seeing how everyone tried their best. I believe that what is really important is to have the courage to take on challenges and that no matter what the outcome is, the real failure is not daring to try.
