Una introducción necesaria
Hay acontecimientos deportivos que pasan inadvertidos o tienen poca difusión, debido a causas disímiles; entre las que se encuentran: la globalización de la comunicación y sus intereses, las exigencias de los públicos, para los que va destinada la información o los gustos y popularidad del deporte en cuestión.

Recientemente se realizó el Campeonato Mundial de Judo, en Taskent, Uzbekistán y no tuvo la atención mediática que requiere esta arte marcial; debido fundamentalmente a las causas mencionadas anteriormente.
Lo anterior, quizás no ocurrió en Asia, donde este deporte es pasión ni en algunos países de Europa o América, como Francia y Brasil, donde este es uno de los deportes fundamentales de esos países que por demás son potencias mundiales del mismo.
En esta publicación quiero hacer un análisis del evento y la actuación de la delegación cubana, en un deporte que le ha dado muchas glorias al país y que es uno de los principales referentes del movimiento deportivo cubano, a la hora de participar en competiciones múltiples, como Juegos Centroamericanos, Juegos Panamericanos o Juegos Olímpicos y que las actuaciones de sus deportistas nos ubican en puestos cimeros, por el gran número de medallas que aporta.
Valoración del XL Campeonato Mundial
El campeonato mundial número 40 se realizó en la ciudad de Taskent, Uzbekistán entre el 6 y el 13 de este mes. En este país de Asia Central se desarrolló la competencia que contó con la participación de 571 judocas masculinos y 82 femeninas.
Fue un torneo de un altísimo nivel competitivo y que nuevamente tuvo en Japón al país ganador. Esta es la principal potencia del judo internacional y acumula la mayor cosecha de medalla a lo largo de la historia y el mayor número de campeones del mundo.
Para que se tenga una idea del alto nivel competitivo, sólo 8 países de los asistentes al evento tuvieron campeones mundiales y solo los tres punteros: Japón (5), Brasil (2) y Uzbekistán (2) tuvieron más de 1 título mundial. Entre los países que alcanzaron 1 título mundial estuvo Cuba (1) lo que la ubicó en el octavo lugar por países.
El otro elemento distintivo de este campeonato mundial fue el número de puntos que otorgó, para la clasificación olímpica París 2024.
Breve panorámica de la actuación cubana en campeonatos del mundo.
Nuestro país ocupa una de las posiciones cimeras en el medallero histórico de este deporte. Muchas han sido las figuras que han prestigiado el Judo Cubano que nos ha hecho merecedor del reconocimiento de la Federación Internacional de este deporte, con especial protagonismo del judo femenino.
Entre otros podemos referirnos a nuestra primera campeona mundial la ya desaparecida Estela Rodríguez u otras que también brillaron en estas competiciones como Driulis González, Legna Verdecia, Yurisleidis Lupetey, Daima Beltrán, Idalis Ortiz, Asley González, Hector Rodríguez, Yordanis Arencibia; entre otros. En varias de las citas mundiales siempre hemos tenido medallistas y campeones mundiales. Esta versión no sería la excepción.
¿Quién fue nuestro campeón mundial?
Contrario a lo ocurrido en la mayoría de los campeonatos mundiales, quien subió a lo más alto del podio no fue una mujer, sino un judoca masculino, su nombre: Andy Granda quien tuvo la competencia de su vida y venció a rivales que tienen mejor palmarés que él.
Para conseguir el título tuvo que vencer a 5 oponentes, entre los que se encontraban el campeón mundial de 2018 Guram Tushishvili de Georgia y en la final a la nueva perla del judo japonés de la división Tatsuro Saito. Para que se tenga una idea de la grandeza del cubano fue el único representante del sector masculino de los países hispanohablantes en alcanzar la medalla de oro.
Mi valoración de la actuación cubana en el campeonato mundial.
Como expresamos anteriormente, Cuba alcanzó el octavo lugar por países, en una justa en la que potencias de este deporte como China, Corea del Sur, Holanda, Inglaterra o Bélgica se fueron sin campeones del mundo. Una pregunta podríamos hacernos:
*¿Es una buena actuación la realizada por la delegación cubana? *
Desde el punto de vista de la ubicación, considero que sí, un lugar en el top 10 del mundo nos ubica en una posición de privilegio y deberíamos sentirnos complacidos y contentos, pero no podemos llamarnos a engaños ni conformarnos con triunfalismos que no nos harán seguir avanzando en un deporte que tantas glorias le ha dado al país.
Para que se tenga una idea Cuba llevó 11 judocas al mundial y Además de la medalla de oro, solo tuvimos dos judocas que estuvieron entre los 8 primeros: Iván Silva 5to lugar e Idalis Ortiz 7mo puesto. Los demás cayeron en sus primeras presentaciones o no avanzaron más allá de sus segundos combates.
Una reflexión final.
Lejos están los tiempos en que la mayoría de nuestros judocas, sobre todo, en el sector femenino alcanzaban medallas de oro o de cualquier color en todas las competiciones incluyendo los campeonatos del mundo.
Lo realizado ahora es una alarma, pues solo Idalis Ortiz alcanzó el séptimo puesto y ya está terminando su carrera deportiva. De hecho, en mi humilde opinión los Juegos Olímpicos de Tokio debieron ser sus últimas competencias.
Es necesario ir una y otra vez a los entrenadores que tanta gloria le dieron a este país, entre los que se encuentra Ronaldo Veitía, buscar sus métodos de entrenamientos, combinarlos con lo más adelantado de este deporte en el mundo, enviar entrenadores a cursos de superación a Asia y otras regiones que constituyen potencias mundiales, para elevar el techo de este deporte, una de las disciplinas que nos eleva en el medallero de los Juegos Multideportivos.

A necessary introduction
There are sporting events that go unnoticed or have little diffusion, due to dissimilar causes; among which are: the globalization of communication and its interests, the demands of the public, for which the information is destined or the tastes and popularity of the sport in question.
Recently the World Judo Championship was held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan and did not receive the media attention required by this martial art, mainly due to the causes mentioned above.
This may not have happened in Asia, where this sport is a passion, nor in some countries of Europe or America, such as France and Brazil, where this is one of the fundamental sports of these countries, which are world powers in this sport.
In this publication I want to make an analysis of the event and the performance of the Cuban delegation, in a sport that has given many glories to the country and that is one of the main references of the Cuban sports movement, when participating in multiple competitions, such as Central American Games, Pan American Games or Olympic Games and that the performances of its athletes place us in top positions, by the large number of medals it brings.
Evaluation of the XL World Championship.
The 40th World Championship was held in the city of Tashkent, Uzbekistan between the 6th and 13th of this month. The competition took place in this Central Asian country and was attended by 571 male and 82 female judokas.

Brief overview of Cuba's performance in world championships
Our country occupies one of the top positions in the historical medals of this sport. Many have been the figures that have given prestige to Cuban Judo, which has made us worthy of recognition by the International Judo Federation, with special prominence in women's judo.

Who was our world champion?

My evaluation of the Cuban performance in the world championship.
As we expressed before, Cuba reached the eighth place by countries, in a fair in which powers of this sport such as China, South Korea, Holland, England or Belgium left without world champions. A question we could ask ourselves:
Is it a good performance by the Cuban delegation?
From the point of view of location, I consider that yes, a place in the top 10 of the world places us in a privileged position and we should feel pleased and happy, but we cannot be deceived or settle for triumphalism that will not make us continue advancing in a sport that has given so many glories to the country.
To give you an idea, Cuba took 11 judokas to the world championship and besides the gold medal, we only had two judokas who were in the top 8: Ivan Silva 5th place and Idalis Ortiz 7th place. The rest fell in their first performances or did not advance beyond their second bouts.
A final reflection
Long gone are the times when most of our judo players, especially in the female sector, won gold medals or any color in all competitions, including the world championships.
What happened now is an alarm, since only Idalis Ortiz reached the seventh place and she is already finishing her sports career. In fact, in my humble opinion, the Tokyo Olympics should have been her last competitions.
It is necessary to go again and again to the coaches who gave so much glory to this country, among them Ronaldo Veitía, to look for their training methods, to combine them with the most advanced of this sport in the world, to send coaches to courses of improvement to Asia and other regions that are world powers, to raise the ceiling of this sport, one of the disciplines that elevates us in the medal table of the Multisport Games.
