Una introducción necesaria
Ambos atletas confirmaron su favoritismo y se alzaron con dos medallas de oro, para convertirse en monarcas universales y estar, desde ya, luchando por estar entre los mejores deportistas del país en este 2023.
De los dos atletas hay una que puede seguir ampliando su cosecha dorada, para confirmarse como la mejor paratleta cubana de todos los tiempos y uno de los referentes a nivel mundial. El otro continúa labrando su hermosa carrera y a su corta edad y poco tiempo en el deporte de alto rendimiento ya atesora una linda carrera deportiva.
En esta publicación el autor hará referencia a la actuación de ambos cubanos y dará su opinión en torno a los otros eventos que les quedan a la paratleta cubana y su intención expresa de seguir incrementando los títulos dorados que archiva en sus vitrinas.
La primera medalla de oro de la delegación cubana
Robiel Yankiel Sol sigue haciendo honor a su apellido y cada día brilla mucho más. Lo que ha realizado el exponente más joven de la comitiva cubana es sorprendente porque pasó de ser un desconocido a ganar los títulos más importantes del Paratletismo. Lo anterior se explica al ganar los Juegos Paralímpicos de Tokio, los Paraparamericanos, adueñarse del récord del mundo y convertirse ahora en campeón mundial.
Lo asombroso de todo esto es que lo ha hecho en un lapso de dos años y ahora es que tiene 20 años de edad. ¿Llegará a ser el mejor parasaltador cubano de todos los tiempos? Será difícil desbancar de esa posición a Enrique Cepeda Caballero, pero, lo cierto es que ya comenzó a escribir su propia historia.
Omara la inigualable
Cuando se escriba la historia del deporte cubano hay que situar con letras doradas y en los más alto de la gloria el nombre de Omara Durán Elías quien, apenas pasadas las tres décadas de vida ya tiene una historia que la ha llevado alcanzar los máximos honores en el deporte, no sólo para discapacitados, sino, para todos en general.
A pesar de lo anterior, no venimos a hablar de sus logros anteriores, sino, en lo realizado hasta este momento y lo que le falta por hacer en este Mundial de Paratletismo.
Oro en 400 metros
Cuando vi la final de los 400 metros y vi la victoria alcanzada por Omara y lo fácil (Ganó con 52.82 segundos y la medallista de plata fue la venezolana Alejandra Pérez que llegó 5 segundos después de la cubana) que lo hace cualquiera pudiera pensar que detrás de ese resultado no hay disciplina, sacrificios, hora quitadas a su niño, sus fiestas, lejos de su familia y su esposo.
Confieso que no puedo imaginar adonde hubiese llegado esta deportista de no tener esta discapacidad visual y tener que correr acompañada de un guía que se ha acoplado muy bien con ella, pero necesariamente le roba segundos a su tiempo final de carrera. Para tener una idea mejor de lo que digo aquí les dejo esto: El récord mundial de los 400 metros planos es de 47.60 de la alemana Marita Koch y Omara ganó con 52.82 segundos la carrera final de la distancia. Pero hoy se ganan competencias convencionales con 50 segundos y más.
¿Dos medallas doradas más?
A Omara le restan sus dos pruebas favoritas y en las que tiene grandes opciones de seguir incrementando sus títulos dorados en este tipo de competiciones. Este autor desconoce quién o quiénes tienen la mayor cantidad de cetros dorados, pero sí conoce que la cubana tiene 12 y si, como todos esperamos, gana los 100 y 200 metros planos llegaría a 14 una cifra que no muchos deben atesorar.
En ambas pruebas tiene más resistencia, sobre todo, en los 100 metros, pero debe ganar. Ella tiene todos los elementos necesarios para imponerse: Es rápida, imprime fuerza a velocidad y es muy buena corredora de la curva (200 metros) y de la recta (los dos eventos). A lo anterior hay que agregar su técnica exquisita y el trabajo de equipo con su guía Yuniol Kindelán.

Es cierto que la protagonista de esta historia es Omara Durán Elías, ero los atletas como ellas que necesitan de un guía para correr deben tener una buena sincronización con ellos, lo que significa entrenar juntos, llevarse bien, dominar los elementos técnicos de los eventos y entrenar mucho porque nunca el guía puede ir delante de la atleta porque quedan descalificados. Muchas veces Omara ha dicho que sus triunfos serían imposible sin su guía Yuniol a quien considera como un hermano de vida.
Un comentario final
Cuba vuelve a ratificar la calidad de su deporte para atletas discapacitados y ya atesora dos medallas doradas que deben incrementarse con la actuación de otros participantes y de la propia Omara Durán quien es amplia favorita a ganar dos medallas de oro más, debido a su gran calidad atlética y el dominio que ejerce sobre el resto de sus adversarias.
Hasta este momento se van cumpliendo los pronósticos y los dos principales exponentes del Paratletismo de la isla entregaron la alegría mayor al país al lograr la medalla de oro y ubicar a Cuba en un lugar destacado, dentro del cuadro de medallas por países.

When the history of Cuban sports is written, the name of Omara Durán Elías must be placed in golden letters and in the highest glory. She is barely three decades old and has a history that has led her to achieve the highest honors in sports, not only for the handicapped, but for everyone in general.
In spite of the above, we are not here to talk about her previous achievements, but about what she has done so far and what she has yet to do in this Parathletics World Championship.

When I saw the final of the 400 meters and saw the victory achieved by Omara and how easy (she won with 52.82 seconds and the silver medalist was the Venezuelan Alejandra Perez who arrived 5 seconds after the Cuban) anyone could think that behind this result there is no discipline, sacrifices, hours away from her child, her parties, away from her family and her husband.
I confess that I cannot imagine where this athlete would have reached if she had not had this visual impairment and had to run accompanied by a guide who has coupled very well with her, but necessarily steals seconds from her final race time. Omara still has her two favorite events left and in which she has great options to continue increasing her golden titles in this type of competitions. It is true that the protagonist of this story is Omara Durán Elías, but athletes like them who need a guide to run must have a good synchronization with them, which means training together, getting along well, mastering the technical elements of the events and training a lot because the guide can never go ahead of the athlete because they are disqualified. Many times Omara has said that her triumphs would be impossible without her guide Yuniol whom she considers as a brother in life.
A final comment
Cuba once again ratifies the quality of its sport for disabled athletes and already has two gold medals that should be increased with the performance of other participants and Omara Durán herself, who is a great favorite to win two more gold medals, due to her great athletic quality and the dominance she has over the rest of her opponents.
Up to this moment, the forecasts are being fulfilled and the two main exponents of Parathletics of the island delivered the greatest joy to the country by winning the gold medal and placing Cuba in an outstanding place in the medal table by countries.
