No fue un torneo fácil. Se sabía de antemano que por su posición en el ranking mundial (3ro) y por cómo funciona el sorteo, para llegar a la final tendría que pasar por el que está llamado a ser el próximo rey del tenis mundial y en ese entonces número 1 del mundo, el español Carlos Alcaraz.
En esta publicación el autor no pretende abordar el partido de la final contra Casper Ruud, sino abordar algunos elementos que puedan darle a quien pueda leer la publicación los elementos necesarios para que pueda decidir al final cuál es el tenista más grande de todos los tiempos.

La relevancia no está en el número de veces que lo haya ganado porque hay varios tenistas que lo han ganado más de tres veces; sino que, no es precisamente un enamorado de este tipo de superficie en la que se juega este torneo (Tierra batida) y sí lo es de la superficie dura que es donde se juega en Australia y Estados Unidos. (En Inglaterra se juega sobre césped)
•Podría convertirse en el tenista de más edad en ganar este torneo, pues casi, a las cuatro décadas de vida los tenistas no acostumbran a mostrar esa calidad deportiva que les permita ganar torneos al máximo nivel mundial.
•Otra vez podía subir a la cima del escalafón mundial, pues de ganar dejaría en el camino a Carlos Alcaraz en semifinales y le sacaría los puntos suficientes que lo devolverían al número 1 de la Asociación de Tenistas Profesionales (ATP)

Después de la derrota de Novak Djokovic en el Máster Mil de Roma se pensó que no tenía muchas posibilidades de levantar el trofeo. Lo anterior es porque el torneo italiano se juega en superficie parecida al de la capital francesa y porque en el Roland Garros estarían jugadores que en este tipo de superficie los aventajan.
Es cierto que no estaría el rey absoluto del segundo Gran Slam del año, pero el compatriota de Rafael Nadal y número 1 del mundo estaría en la competición. De igual manera estarían otros del top 10 mundial que podrían enfrentar al serbio y destronarlo como pasó en Roma.
El camino de Djokovic al tricampeonato francés
Ninguna competición al máximo nivel es fácil porque todos los contrarios se preparan para enfrentarte y derrotarte, pero en el caso de este torneo es uno de los que más fácil ha ganado el serbio.
Uno por uno fue derrotando a los rivales de manera absoluta y sin ver peligrar la victoria. Esto sucedió en todas las rondas hasta que llegó a semifinales y tal como se esperaba se enfrentaban dos de los tres mejores tenistas de la actualidad.
