Desde niño crecí amando al deporte y a muchos debo el sentir amor por esta actividad y mis padres están en primer lugar. Ellos me enseñaron de amores, educación, sentimientos y valores. Mi papá me enseñó que el pabellón nacional se defiende y se cuida como la casa o la familia. También me enseñó a amar el béisbol y todo lo que representa.
Me explicó cómo se fue construyendo esa pasión nacional por este deporte hasta que se convirtiera en nuestro deporte nacional. Ver lo que nos ha pasado en el V Clásico Mundial de Béisbol y todas las esperanzas desbaratadas ha roto mi corazón y el de millones de cubanos que teníamos cifradas esperanzas en este equipo Cuba.
Pido disculpas por esas palabras, pero no me arrepiento de ellas porque fue mi corazón quien habló acompañado de mis sentimientos.
Esta publicación abordará los elementos que a juicios del autor dieron al traste con las aspiraciones del equipo Cuba de avanzar más allá de la Fase de Grupos de este clásico y terminar tan rápido su actuación en la competición de béisbol más importante del mundo a nivel de selecciones.
Primer juego
Ayer, en una publicación sobre el debut del equipo cubano analizamos los elementos esenciales del juego y su implicación en lo que podía suceder en el resultado posterior del equipo. De igual manera valoramos la superioridad de los Países Bajos, sobre nuestra selección, sobre todo en los clásicos mundiales y cómo desde hace tiempo no se le logra derrotar en ningún evento.
A partir de lo anterior no queremos aburrir al lector con datos o comentarios innecesarios en torno a ese juego y nos centraremos en el juego de hoy sostenido por nuestro equipo que ha significado la eliminación del mismo, más allá de las probabilidades matemáticas que existen y que muy pocos se aferran a ellas.

Este juego era de vida o muerte para Cuba, pues de ganarlo mantendría muy viva sus posibilidades de avanzar y de perder diría adiós a la fase semifinal del Clásico Mundial.
¿Qué ocurrió?
El juego transcurrió sin anotaciones durante los primeros innings, pero Italia anotó primero y cerrando el sexto episodio ganaba dos carreras por cero. Cuba logró empatar en las postrimerías y en extra innings los italianos nos derrotaron seis carreras por tres.
Un amigo me preguntaba si ese era un clásico de béisbol o de fútbol porque Cuba había perdido ayer con Países Bajos y hoy caía derrotado con Italia, me cuestionó si yo estaba seguro que el resultado estaba correcto, que cómo era esto posible, que tratara de explicarle tales sucesos. Reconozco que tuve que hacer acopio de paciencia y buen tino para poder explicarle y darle mis argumentos en torno a esta temprana eliminación de nuestro equipo.
En fin, aquí expongo mis elementos, sobre la eliminación del equipo y lo que en mi humilde opinión no hicimos bien.
Elementos que a juicio del autor proporcionaron la eliminación de Cuba del Clásico Mundial.
•El juego de béisbol se gana por carreras y el equipo cubano es el penúltimo en este renglón, entre todos los equipos que han debutado.
•Ha habido problemas de dirección que han influido en los resultados de los dos juegos.
•Los lanzadores abridores han trabajado bien, esa es la verdad, pero los relevistas no han jugado su papel.
•Los jugadores de los que más se esperaba no han rendido absolutamente nada lo que ha sido fatal en el resultado final.
Para tener una idea de lo anterior un ejemplo: si los jugadores que ocupan puestos importantes de la alineación no batean no se puede ganar y Yoan Moncada Olivera, Luis Robert Moirán, Yoennis Céspedes Milanés y Lorenzo Quintana Fernández no han aportado lo que de ellos se esperaba y ocupan turnos al bate de suma importancia.
•No se ha cambiado a jugadores que no han estado rindiendo y no se ha rotado el pitcheo de la mejor manera posible.
•En algunos momentos del juego contra Italia se apreció falta de concentración que trajo como resultado anotaciones del equipo rival.
Quizás la dirección del equipo no ha sabido manejar el equipo de la mejor manera posible y no ha sustituido a tiempo a todos los que no estén teniendo un resultado positivo. Esto hay que hacerlo y no pueden seguir jugando peloteros que no están rindiendo ni aportando lo suficiente a un equipo en el que todos los cubanos teníamos cifradas muchas esperanzas.

Un comentario final
Pudiera parecer una paradoja, pero por primera vez logramos reunir un equipo de béisbol con peloteros de las principales ligas del mundo para participar en un evento como este y tenemos la peor actuación en la historia de estas competiciones. Muchos pudieran decir que faltaron muchos peloteros y que podíamos tener un mejor equipo. Eso es verdad, pero también lo es que a equipos como República Dominicana, Estados Unidos, Puerto Rico, Venezuela y otros también le faltaron varias piezas importantes.
Habrá que revisar varios elementos que nos permitan corregir el rumbo y alcanzar mejores resultados en los torneos que están por venir. No se puede seguir utilizando los mismos métodos de antaño si queremos alcanzar resultados positivos y volver a los planos estelares de este deporte.
Por el momento debemos decir adiós y aprender de nuestros errores. Debemos aplicar de verdad los adelantos de la ciencia y la técnica, tenemos que ver en la Sabermetría una herramienta de trabajo imprescindible, no una carga; debemos ir a las fuentes de los mejores resultados y aprender o reinventarnos nuestras maneras de entrenar y de confeccionar nuestras selecciones.

This has been the most difficult of my publications and the one I had the hardest time writing. I am a person given to feelings, but it is hard for me to cry and today I have done it and quite a lot. Those who know me know of my passions and recognize sport as one of them.

Since I was a child I grew up loving sports and I owe it to many to feel love for this activity and my parents are in first place. They taught me about love, education, feelings and values. My dad taught me that the national flag is defended and cared for like the house or the family. He also taught me to love baseball and everything it represents.
He explained to me how this national passion for the sport was built until it became our national sport. Seeing what has happened to us in the V World Baseball Classic and all the hopes dashed has broken my heart and the hearts of millions of Cubans who had high hopes for this Cuban team.
I apologize for those words, but I do not regret them because it was my heart that spoke along with my feelings.
This publication will address the elements that, in the author's opinion, ruined the aspirations of the Cuban team to advance beyond the Group Stage of this classic and end so quickly its performance in the most important baseball competition in the world at the national team level.
First game
Yesterday, in a post about the Cuban team's debut we analyzed the essential elements of the game and their implication in what could happen in the team's subsequent result. We also assessed the superiority of the Netherlands over our national team, especially in the world classics and how they have not been defeated in any event for a long time.
Based on the above, we do not want to bore the reader with unnecessary data or comments about that game and we will focus on today's game sustained by our team, which has meant the elimination of the same, beyond the mathematical probabilities that exist and that very few cling to them.

This game was life or death for Cuba, because if they won it, they would keep their chances of advancing very much alive and if they lost, they would say goodbye to the semifinal phase of the World Classic.
What happened?
The game was scoreless during the first innings, but Italy scored first and by the end of the sixth inning was leading two runs to zero. Cuba managed to tie in the late innings and in extra innings the Italians defeated us six runs to three.
A friend of mine asked me if this was a baseball or soccer classic because Cuba had lost yesterday to the Netherlands and today was defeated by Italy, he asked me if I was sure that the result was correct, how was this possible, to try to explain such events to him. I must admit that I had to be very patient and well-meaning in order to explain to him and give him my arguments about this early elimination of our team.
Anyway, here I expose my elements, about the elimination of the team and what in my humble opinion we did not do well.
Elements that in the author's opinion led to Cuba's elimination from the World Classic.
The game of baseball is won by runs and the Cuban team is second to last in this line, among all the teams that have debuted.
There have been managerial problems that have influenced the results of the two games.
The starting pitchers have worked well, that is the truth, but the relievers have not played their role.
The most expected players have not performed at all, which has been fatal in the final result.
To have an idea of the above an example: if the players who occupy important positions in the lineup do not bat you cannot win and Yoan Moncada Olivera, Luis Robert Moirán, Yoennis Céspedes Milanés and Lorenzo Quintana Fernández have not contributed what was expected of them and they occupy very important at-bats.

A final comment
It may seem a paradox, but for the first time we managed to put together a baseball team with players from the major leagues of the world to participate in an event like this and we have the worst performance in the history of these competitions. Many might say that we were missing many players and that we could have had a better team. That is true, but it is also true that teams like the Dominican Republic, the United States, Puerto Rico, Venezuela and others also lacked several important players.
We will have to review several elements that will allow us to correct the course and achieve better results in the tournaments to come. We cannot continue using the same methods of yesteryear if we want to achieve positive results and return to the stellar levels of this sport.
For the moment we must say goodbye and learn from our mistakes. We must truly apply the advances in science and technique, we must see Sabermetrics as an essential work tool, not a burden; we must go to the sources of the best results and learn or reinvent our ways of training and making our selections.
